Ever found anything old worth money?
Just had a facebook friend asking about some German money she found from the 20's and seeing how much it may be worth.
Anyone found anything old worth more than you thought?
I had some silver coins that I got for Christmas several years ago recently appraised and they were like $75/piece which surprised the crap out of me. Probably wouldn't have just set them on my dresser had I known that was the case.
Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating. -

When I was around jr high age I was helping an elderly neighbor clean out her garage and found some old boxing trading cards. I collected football, baseball cards etc so I thought it was cool just to find them. One weekend i took them to a card show to see if anyone knew what they were, turns out they were from 30's and came with chewing tobacco and the prices ranged from $20-$200 bucks depending on the boxer. I had found several duplicates so I sold the ones I had extra of, ending up making about $800 bucks. When you're 13 that may as well be the lottery. Looking back I could made about 3x's that, I regret not selling them all.
The only bigger turnoff than finding out a woman smokes, is finding out she's a Husker fan. -

My dad found an OLD Indian ax head when he was discing about 37 years ago. He just happened to be looking back and saw something shining in the soil. It is black stone and only the cutting half- basically half an ax, but it is pretty blunt and wide- you can see some cool edging where it once held the shaft. Because it is broken, I am not sure of the value, but it is a cool story about the peoples that lived near council bluffs many hundreds of years ago.
I found an indian bead in three feet of soil when we were digging our septic tank. It is purple/pink and a little translucent, but it was the only one there. Both finds are by incredible chance and makes me wonder what else is down there. Of course, both were found relatively close to water, so that isn't really a surprise.

A friend of mine simply found old money. He was doing some duct work in his house, which had previously been occupied by a hermit. He knocked out part of the soffit in the ceiling to do some work, and nearly got nailed in the head by a 100 oz brick-size bar of silver! Worth about 3 grand.

Ducts, dropped ceilings, insides of walls. Its crazy what people stash. My great aunt once had a couple thousand in her grill in the back yard. It was there till I found it and told my dad. probably a year or so. Honestly though, who would think to look there?

I ate at a Subway one time, and when they gave me change back they gave me a penny from 1863. I don't know how much it is worth, but I like think that it at least paid for my meal or it could be a fake now that I am thinking about it.

I have some old German money in denominations running from 500 marks to multi-million marks from back between the World Wars when it took a wheelbarrow full of marks to buy a loaf of bread. Maybe I should take them down to McDonalds and try and buy some fries? They are worth a buck or so as a curiosity for collectors. I have a bunch of coins also. I am guessing the old silver dollar sized pre-WWI silver coin with the Kaiser on it is worth something if just for the silver. I wish I hadn’t carried one of them in my pocket on a key chain back in college; scratched it up pretty bad. The pot metal coins from WWII with Hitler and swastikas on them are worthless but another interesting curiosity item I have. My old man brought all of this stuff back from WWII. -

You can find all you want on the surface, but "digging" for artifacts is frowned upon.....I think you are legally allowed to dig 6" for that purpose. Anything below that belongs to the state (to discourage grave robbers/digging up indian mounds).
