We had some Boy Scout Popcorn that needed to be popped (that's a ripoff by the way, $10 for a 3pound bag, $18.00 for a 50 pound bag at Sam's, but that's another story). This was on sale at Kroger so I bought it. We have an air popper, but the popcorn tastes like eating paper.
I have an 11yr old boy and 9yr old girl that had no idea what it was when I first opened it. Put the popcorn in and butter on top and they cracked up watching it pop. And it tasted great!
Makes me think of all the other older things my kids will never experience or know.
My grandfather used to make popcorn with these... One of my only memories of him. Bought one a few years ago and LOVE IT. Best thing I have tried for making popcorn.

My mom has a stove-top popcorn pot. Put in a little oil, add the popcorn seeds, turn on the heat and stir (has a stirring rod on the lid). Works very well.
You can make popcorn in a covered skillet on your stove the same way. Instead of having a little stir stick, you just pick up and shake the skillet every 10 - 20 seconds or so.
We do have one of these though and use it a lot.

It's a simple game in which strategic beauty comes not from being surprised by some new clever trick, but from the sublime, routine brilliance of a master in his element.
Ahhh yes, the "Stir-Crazy". a full bowl of this with a little butter, a little salt and an Orange Juice/7-up concoction was my official after school snack, back in the day.
Speaking of which, I'm heading home to see my parents this weekend...might just have to swipe that away from them.....

I have one of those. Haven't used it in a few years but I'm sure it will still work. I thought about buying an air popper at one point but I figure what's the point of eating popcorn if it tastes like paper.
They say country music speaks to the heart. Unfortunately, it has to go through your ears to get there.
...but these were standard equipment in anybody's dorm room when I was at I-State. And, they were multi-purpose. Not only did we use them for corn poppers but also used them as a small skillet to fry up burgers, etc.
What we bought a while back for nostalgic reasons - and to show our son - was one of the old stove top poppers with a crank on the lid so that you could spin it to keep the kernels from burning while popping. That's how we made popcorn when I was growing up.

Yep, had one in the dorm room when I was a student in the mid/late 70's. That, a toaster oven and a dorm fridge and you had it made.
Best popcorn maker we ever had was the bottom of a pressure cooker with a loose fitting non-matching lid. It was so thick you didn't have to worry about burning the popcorn, no shaking required. We were even oldschool back in the 60's and used lard for the oil.
No matter what, I could NEVER cheer for Dirt and Urine.
