That's absolutely disgusting. Just unacceptable. Wow.
Was that in Ames? That is awful...
$5 tip on a $357 tab???
I knew Frank Martin was a *****, but wow!
Maybe the service was bad.
cheap losers.
did they tip cash? who was the tab for? I assume not the team because most places do an automatic 15 percent.
Assuming that is a team bill, you would think that the amount would automatically include a gratuity, 18% or so, considering the amount of people eating which is typical add on? If not, bad job outta them and the restaurant management for not covering the staff on large groups.

How else do you get the Michael Beasley's, Bill Walker's, or forgetting that other highly rated guy from 2 years ago that was a bust to come to Manhatten? Gotta save some cash somewhere.
My thoughts exactly--anytime you have a tab that high, it's probably from a large party that automatically gets gratuity slapped on.
Automatic gratuity is such crap, by the way. Being the econ nerd that I am, I never do a straight percentage, but use an algebraic formula. The waitress at a coffee shop provides nearly the same amount of service as the waitress at a place with $25 entrees--why should the coffee shop waitress get penalized simply because the food is cheaper where she works?
It depends on the service, but the formula still accounts for price so I tend to tip higher at a restaurant than a coffee shop. Plus, coffee shop waitresses expect you to lay down a small tip and usually "adjust" their service accordingly.
Compared to others, though, I probably tip more at a coffee shop and less at a restaurant. So, both.
