Ejim at the 4
I know this kid was recruited at the 3. Will he be subject to play the four his whole career as a result of the roster. He is doing an excellent job at the 4, don't get me wrong, but it would be nice to see what he could do with a little experience under his belt at the small forward spot.
You live in Kansas City. Think you dumb ape. -
Re: Ejim at the 4
Ejim is extremely athletic, but he is more cut out at the 4 because he doesn't possess the skill set to be a 3. He is under sized at the 4, but I think he does an excellent job.

Re: Ejim at the 4
Hard to say. One would think that if he had the skill to take a guy off the dribble from outside, he'd be doing that now, particularly if he is defended by a typical 4.

Re: Ejim at the 4
He'll definitely play the 4 next year, as Clyburn slides in at the 3.
If he develops his guard skillset, he could move over to the 3 his senior year as Niang and Gibson should be starting at the 4 & 5 by then.

Either way, I love the way he plays. He's been a real difference maker this year, doing whatever needs to be done.

Re: Ejim at the 4
Hes basically a 3 anyway... always on the wing, rarely posting up.
Just a scrappy player.

He's not the ideal size at the 4, but he seems to make up for that with effort.
He also benefits greatly from playing with Royce, who draws a lot of attention when he drives to the hole. That leaves Ejim open for some very nice passes/ lay-ups.

Re: Ejim at the 4
He's a great 4 when we're playing uptempo and with Royce as the only post. When compared to other 4s, he hits the 3 pretty dang well.
I hope he develops into more of a 3, but that is to be determined.

Best thing yet... His career is not even half over. Could go down as one of the greatest Cyclone favorites.

Re: Ejim at the 4
Melvin seems like the type of fellow who doesn't care. He just busts his *** to do as much as he can for the team -
Re: Ejim at the 4
I don't think he'd ever play the three in the sort of system Fred seems to favor. Obviously coaches tweak the system based on personnel, but I'm not certain the 3 is ever in Melvin's future. Which is fine, because he plays great with his current role.

Re: Ejim at the 4
There really aren't traditional positions anymore.
I like his ability to play the 4 and the 3. If they continue to work on his shooting ability and he increases his 3 pt percentage to say 25 - 30 % next year, with him and Clyburn rotating at the 3/4 depending on matchups, it will create nightmares for opposing coaches.
You will have a 6'6 guy in Ejim and a 6'7 guy in Clyburn. you put a big guy on them, they drive around. You put a smaller guy on them...they shoot the 3! Loving the possibilities!

Re: Ejim at the 4
The 4 position suits his skill set better. I think he may play the 3 as a senior, depending on how the rest of our roster looks and his ball handling development. Next year, with Clyburn and Babb on the roster, he will mostly be a 4 again.

I hope he develops into more of a 3, but that is to be determined. 22.7% on the season. A lot of 4's could do that if they shot as many 3's as him.
