Basically for those of you that do not know UNI is doing major program cuts. They are closing the Malcolm Price Lab School which is used extensively to train future teachers. The school has around 400 k-12 students and is considered the Reasearch and Development school for the state of Iowa. News that the lab was closing was leaked through the newspaper 2 days before Ben Allen officially told the faculty and parents that Price Lab was closing. Last I heard Price lab has a team of lawyers to sort out the legality of closing a state entity without legislative action.
In response to this news, faculty made a vote of no confidence in the Dean of the Education dept. The president Ben Allen, and Provost I believe. I frequent Schindler(Teacher Ed building) and there are tons of immediate faculty meetings along with hushed talks between professors going on. Another round of Program cuts is coming out very soon, and things are likely to get even more heated.
