Would not step a foot in that building

Interestng story but I don't get a good feeling from this line:
"But a job done quickly is not always a job done well. Zhang said that in their race to the finish line, many Chinese construction companies skimp on the meticulous reviews and inspections that make projects in the West drag on for years."
Even though inspections can be a hassle, they are usually there for safety.

What's the cure time on concrete? I hope they don't have earthquakes

Things have to cure, etc. before other things can happen. I'm no expert on the overall process, but for flooring, you are not even supposed to set your materials for 30 days after the concrete is poured. Not to mention, the residual moisture from wet work could not have been reduced to normal occupation levels before install. I'm sure there are ways to speed these processes, but I'd have to imagine that every corner that could be cut was to get it up this fast.

That building will fall down in 10 days.

Re: 30 Story Building Built in 15 Days
It says in the article that the foundation was laid ahead of time. I wonder how long it took them to get to a point or make all the pieces to assemble the building that quickly.

Yeah...the more I think about it...I don't think I would feel comfortable staying in that hotel! That said...I don't know anything about the construction of the hotels I do stay in...maybe that is a good thing?

Even though inspections can be a hassle, they are usually there for safety. That line is disturbing...it is one thing if you are building a structure on your own property for whatever reason...but a 30 story hotel? Inspections would be a very good thing in this situation!

You can use high early strength concrete where you achieve the strength you need after 2 or 3 days. Traditional concrete doesn't achieve full strength until 28 days, but most concrete plants make mixes which are stronger than advertised so you can get away with a lot of things. That aside, if I was trying to put up a building like this I would use precast or steel.
After watching the video, it looks like that is what they did. They bolted together a huge number of precast or premade sections to make the hotel.

After watching the movie, it is easy to see how they did it so fast. I would probably stay there.
I look at it as a pre-built hotel.

Really interesting actually. The floor\cieling panels were pre-built. Pre-wired, pre-ducted, pre-piped, and already tiled and drywalled. Two weeks to building the structure but how much time was spent building the pre-built sections that normally would be done on site?
Cool stuff.

Even though inspections can be a hassle, they are usually there for safety. My company has tried a couple Chinese made vessels in the past at our production plants. We never received mill test reports for the metal used, and we found out why at the hydrotesting. Lets just say some spectacular failures on vessels that were not even close to specification.
