Me and the GF were thinking about taking a trip soon. We either want to go to DC or Colorado, never been to either.
What would you guys recommend as the best option?
What time of year is best for the locations?
Skiing isn't a priority.

D.C. is a crap hole and isn't beautiful, where Colorado on the other hand is the exact opposite. Colorado is a no brainer, that is if you can tolerate all of the dirty hippies.
It depends on what you like to do.
Nature/Breweries vs. History/Gov't sites
(I'd go CO first)
Yeah went to DC a few summers ago with the family and didn't come away that impressed... The history is obviously the interesting part and it was cool to see all of the monuments and important buildings in person. Went with my Dad and brother to a Nats game while we were there though... They have a pretty nice ballpark.

IMO go to southwestern Colorado. Telluride, Durango, Crested Butte, and Ouray are all incredible little towns with so many outdoor activities just outside your door. Mountain biking, hiking, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, scenic drives/tours, etc. Not crowded. The aspens in late September will blow your mind.
The front range is solid as well, but to me the SW area is where it's at and one of my favorite areas to escape to for a few days. Hwy 550, particularly between Ouray and Silverton, is a great drive.

That said (see my post on Colorado), D.C. is a great trip for historical sights. Fly into Reagan, stay in Alexandria, and take the subway to the malll. That's where many of the sites are. Don't attempt to drive around the Beltway unless you like sitting in the car all day fighting never-ending traffic jams and searching for over-priced parking. Suggest you buy Tourmobile tickets for navigating to all the sights/museums around the mall. You can walk, but if you do, take at least four days. Call your congressman for a tour of the Capital; book early if you have any hope of getting into the White House (although who the heck would want to with Baroke O'merica living there?). Alexandria is a cool Colonial town; Mt. Vernon is a must, as is Arlington with Tomb of the Unknown, Robert E, Lee's home. If you go to DC, do it before July ... DC gets nasty hot and humid.
Colorado. Come see me. We can buddies, pals, amigos.
DC is a must see at some point in your life. The Smithsonian is incredible.
If you go this route, don't miss Black Canyon of the Gunnison on the way to highway 550. And, Mesa Verde near Cortez is a must see!!!Quote:

Went to DC 8th grade year and I really liked it. I was always into history though so going to so many historical places was cool. Like mentioned above, Mount Vernon is awesome with the gazebo overlooking the river. If you do go to DC, I would try to have a trip planned for you. We just got on the bus and the driver would drop us off and we got to go look around.
Been to both.
If I had a choice to live anywhere in the US, it would be in colorado. Hiking, horseback riding, jeeping, rafting...the possibilities are endless.
Two very different trips. Both grand in their own way.
