I love Flying Mango. It is my favorite restaurant in town. I get the corn bread with my meal every time I eat there. My personal favorite is the Chicken from the Other Side. My second favorite restaurant in town is the original Gino's over on 6th in Des Moines. Most people don't venture over there though, which is unfortunate. Fantastic food.

Not a huge fan of Flying Mango. Maybe I didn't order the right thing. Been there twice. Did not like their ribs. Mine were blackened and really dry and tough.
My favorite restaurant in town! Blackened catfish is the best I've
ever had! Same goes for the brisket and corn bread. The big chop and coyote chop are also great and my wife loves the Jenny salad. To be honest the ribs have been hit or miss for me. This is where I take my friends when they visit from out of town and all have had a great time. Tough to find tho in the mythical land of Beaverdale.
I agree about the ribs. The first time I had them, they were incredible. Next time, they were wayyyy too rubbed. The season overpowered.
Its between Woodie's smoke shack and flying mango for top bbq in Des Moines for me. Both very different restaurant. Hard to decide which is better. hmm i want some bbq now.
Food's outstanding. Service: Not so much. Went there a while ago, and had to wait for our table. No biggie. We had a drink or several.
When we finally got seated, we were all ready to order our entrees. The waitress informed us she was not ready to take our meal orders. She insisted on taking drink orders even though most of us still had our drinks from before.

This..
However I did have some of their BBQ at a competition...and it was OUTSTANDING. Much better then I ever had at the actual restaurant.
Another vote for the Flying Mango here. Friend introduced it to my wife and me a couple years ago & I was upset I had not known of it before.
Think their history was in catering first & people kept saying you guys need to open up a place. They did just that & selected a dive (& I mean that in a good way)
