any tobacco pipe smokers out there?
my grandpa passed away a little over a year ago and left one of his pipes to me. I'm still trying to figure it out. I'm only smoking it on occasion, when the mood strikes, and I don't chew or smoke cigarettes. got some tobacco from a local shop in Sioux city that the owner makes himself called briar and bow. my question is that I can't seem to keep it lit. I have to light it every other puff or it burns out without taking much time between puffs. also, I assume you smoke it similar to a cigar and don't inhale all the smoke?
any words of wisdom are much appreciated.

Re: any tobacco pipe smokers out there?
I smoke a pipe on occasion, and relighting the tobacco is not uncommon, unless I chain puff. That tends to make me a tad ill.
Try charring the tobacco on the first couple of lights. Sometimes I get a good cherry this way.

Maybe your Grandfather wasn't smoking tobacco out of his pipes?
There are not many crowds or places in the country that have a better impact on the game than at Iowa State. The Cyclone fans are truly a sixth man. The place is so loud and always a fantastic crowd." - Former Kansas and current North Carolina head coach Roy Williams -

Pipes will go out fairly frequently. You indeed treat it like you would a cigar in regards to not inhaling. Unless you want a quick death, I suppose.
I have only smoked a pipe one or two times, but I had a buddy who obtained some of his grandfather's old pipes and would rock a corderoy blazers (with elbow patches) while puffing the pipe on the walk to class. Gave him an air of authority. One guy actually thought he was a professor. Ahhhhh, good times.

Try charring the tobacco on the first couple of lights. Sometimes I get a good cherry this way. This.
And it burns a lot better if it is packed correctly. Also when you're lighting it, try taking short, shallow puffs.

The OP can also try blowing some air back in the pipe to keep the embers going. I have had limited success, but I don't try very often.

there is just a lot of nostalgia to the sight and smell of it. my grandpa taught me how to be a carpenter amongst many other things and was always my hero. this is a small link to him that I can carry on.

So do people who smoke this like the smell, taste, or what? I can't find the enjoyment out of a cigar or pipe, but my dad loves cigars. What am I missing?
