Office outing planning
Looking for ideas for an office outing. Figured you have probably been part of a few, what are some of the good ones? We have 25 people and around a $1200 budget.

It's cheap and a good bonding experience... "There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr -

Some ideas:
bowling, lazer tag, golfing, BBQ/picnic, baseball game, canoe trip

Golfing. Done. Even if guys don't golf they can drive around in the carts and drink. Everyone wins.
Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

When I lived out East, we once went to Gettysburg. It was somewhat interesting, but my favorite part was taking in the history of the Battle of Schrute Farms. It was a long drive but we had movies on the way out so it was pretty cool.

Re: Office outing planning
most people are late 20's early 30's. We've done golf outings before and baseball games. Looking for something we haven't done. I'm interested in this canoe trip, is this from experience? details?

I'd actually say rent that go-cart track down in Knoxville for a few hours. Internet price said $335/hour. Looked pretty cool.
Cyclone
Iowa State became the Cyclones after they leveled Northwestern in 1895. As the Chicago Tribune (9/29/1895) noted:
'Struck by a Cyclone
It Comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town' -

I haven't personally done a canoe trip with coworkers but I have went with friends. I have went canoeing around des moines so I can't really help with places to go around here.

Re: Office outing planning
I guess I should also mention, our office is in West Des Moines with most of our team being local. Indianola and Ankeny are about as far as people travel to work, so East Coast may be a bit too far -
Re: Office outing planning
Had a BBQ at Green Castle Rec Area south of marshalltown. Brought a bunch of yard games, had it catered...and made sure to bring a keg. Was a good time.

Re: Office outing planning
Shelter house at a rec area catered with the option to camp if you felt like it is an idea we have been knocking around.

Re: Office outing planning
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. -
