Biking Trails

Wife and I recently updated our bikes. We welcome any CF input on the best biking trails in Iowa (or midwest US). Prefer paved, but packed crushed limestone would be OK, too. Thanks. (Not interested in mountain-biking trails.)

Grays like to cumming is nice, and the high trestle is incredible.

The Root River Trail in SE Minnesota makes a nice weekend getaway.

I can't wait for the Chichaqua Trail from Baxter to Bondurant to get repaired and take some pressure off the High Trestle.

Where do you live? Have you seen the google map layer option that shows bike trails/lanes? Its a great way to explore. What bikes did you purchase?

This one would require at least a long weekend. The George S. Mickelson Trail in the Black Hills is amazing. It goes from Deadwood, SD down to the badlands. It's a railroad track that was converted to a crushed limestone trail so it only has grades of ~4%. When I was living at home, my family would make almost annual trips to the Black Hills and spend most of our time on this trail.

Bike Trail Map - Saylorville Lake

These are all pretty good. The Raccoon River Valley Trail is actually pretty decent. Did Windsor Heights to Redfield twice last summer. Only bad stretch is when you're out in the open just west of Waukee. Can get really windy along HW 6.

Dallas County has over 70 miles of paved trails, with a loop soon to be finished of 110 miles

This trail is dangerous, especially if slightly damp. Its also super curvy and difficult to see who is coming towards you. If people are riding too fast its even worse. The Mayor of Clive seemed to think its a good commuting route... I ride Swanson & University Blvd instead...

The Clive Greenbelt Trail is pretty awesome.

Clive trail is great for walking/jogging, it is horrible for biking unless it is with your kids or something. Too many curves, and you cannot see more than 30 feet in front of you in most places.

The Cedar Valley Trail (CVT) starts in Waterloo and connects with the Cedar River Trail (CRT) in CR. You can go from next to highway 20 in Waterloo to just past highway 30 in CR continuous. The CVT is crushed pebbles or whatever and the CRT is paved.
