Best place for transmission repair Ames/Des Moines area

Recently my cousin took his 2001 Blazer in for repair and the mechanics said that the transmission needs to be replaced. Who do you guys recommend for a full replacement of a transmission?

George White quoted $4000 which seems about right for a dealer.

Any advice?

Im from the Omaha area and had my car take a dump out that way....left with Chuck and Larry's. 515 266 7256. They were fair and went above and beyond in my opinion. Kept me informed during the entire process. They didnt gouge for extra, actually heard "well this is the best case possible" for the first time without looking for extra work.

I run a dealership service dept and $4000.00 seem a little high unless they were considering the tax included. I can get a transmission installed for $3200.00 plus tax.
Just don't let them give you the run around about needing this part and needing that part. Don't take any crap.. To be honest, I would get a used transmission for that old of a vehicle. There are plenty of great salvage yards in the metro area.
