Not really. OS X is based on the BSD code base. BSD is a port of Unix.

Linux was written from scratch, and is loosely based on Unix.

I like this description of the difference between them:

Vista was garbage. The only way any business will pick Windows 8 up is if they are very mobility focused. I'll guarantee it.

I stuck it on a desktop machine. I'm sure it will be good for a tablet, but it sucks for a desktop. Everything takes longer to do.

If you've been thinking of upgrading to Windows 8 you better do it soon by tomorrow. The price is going up from $40 to $200 on 2/1. I have mixed feelings on it.

I'll be interested to see in a year or two if Microsoft comes out with an actual Desktop successor to Windows 7, I have no interest in putting Windows 8 on an PC

I see no reason for this. W7 is nearly flawless on a PC and Android or iOS are better options for for tablets.

What a great recipe for improving poor sales, multiply the price by 5!

And while i know windows releases versions less often than apple, an upgrade that doesnt really provide many reasons to upgrade probably shouldnt cost much more than your typical OSX upgrade does.

If anything, i bet we'll see a lot of sellers selling downgrade to 7 like they did with XP. I cant stand 8.

Yes and no. For home users sure, you can get by with it, but for corporate software not so much. I hope that someday we can get a front end app for our medical records software but its a long way off.

It's not that bad. Just learn the Window-Key shortcuts (Window-D gets you to desktop, Window gets you to tiles, etc).

It's still just a bit clunky. I don't think a shared mouse/touchscreen interface was the best way to go.

I bought a new Samsung Series 7 PC (beautiful piece of hardware) with Windows 8 on it and it really ruins the experience of having a new laptop. I should have gone with Windows 7 (I had the option) but this time I thought I would try to stay ahead of the curve. Instead I regret getting it. I would actually be willing to PAY for a downgrade.

Windows 8 actually seems fine .... IF ... you have a touchscreen device. My laptop isn't so all of the menu operations seem clumsy on the touchpad. Windows 8 is DESIGNED for touchscreen. If you don't have touchscreen, stay away.

Windows only exists at work for me. Vista cured me from every wanting Windows on a home computer again. Ubuntu is all that you will find in my home. I use gnome or unity depending on my mood and what I plan to do at the moment on the computer. My hard drive is split right down the middle with the dual boot. I refuse to let my computer tell me what I am going to do and enjoy having the choices that Linux offers. Having no problems with trojans or viruses make computing fun again.
