Avengers is the best "fun" comic movie of all time. TDK is more a new "Bond" movie or a Bourne movie than a comic movie, just my opinion.
I do chuckle when people push the 3D like they are in the Prometheus reviews. Maybe I'm old but I just do not like 3D and I see no value in spending another 3 bucks to watch a movie that way.
I'll see Prometheus, but I'll probably wait until redbox. It seems like the type of movie I'll enjoy more in the comfort of my own home. I never go to the 3D version if possible. It distracts me and takes me out of the moment more than it engrosses me. Of course a ton of the 3D movies are crap, but not all.
non-3D Imax? Give me that ANY day.

bulk of the early reviews are from the European junket/reviewers that are paid for the early pub.
Once mainstream media hits...that number will drop. All early indications are that it is good...but far from Scott's best work.
(I wanted it to be great)

Ridley Scott back to do a prequel to his film Alien? That's a slam dunk. Plus it's not like the guy has fallen off his game in a George Lucas way at all. If I could only see one of the summer's blockbusters it's this by a mile and I'm generally a fan of the comic book movies too. Prometheus International Launch Trailer - YouTube It isn't a Prequel to Alien Ridley Scott has said as much. It takes place in the same universe, may hve some similarities but is NOT A PREQUEL.
Plus Dark Knight Rises will be much better. You are just wrong dude.

Most of these directors that made major hits have since slid. Nature of the beast. I fully expect it to be a visually stunning movie with a bunch of tension and excitement. If the story is slightly weak I can forgive it.

Avengers did a great job of handling the Avengers and even assembling the crew, but the Bad guy plot was very weak and Scarlett Johansson was an aweful cast. It just seemed like less than a "preseason game" so to speak, for the Avengers.
If you don't believe me then maybe RDJ's opinion will convince you: "The movie is not without defects," said Downey Jr. "I still cannot exactly tell you what the bad-guy plot is. During the course of the journey, as long as you don't leave me with these lingering questions, so that I feel like you are being sloppy. But with the difficulty and complexity of it all, I don't like to say this, but I was humbled by it." Why not just have Thanos running the show from the start with Loki as his lackey? This film had a lot going for it but did come up short in some areas.

I could be wrong and I end up liking DKR more, but I'm 100% positive I'm not as excited about it.
For the "it's not a prequel" ... any Alien fan can tell this all goes down at the same place where Alien and Aliens begin. It's the same planet, it's the same ship, you even see enough in the trailer to know we're talking about some of the same life forms. It's effectively a prequel no matter what they want to call it. It certainly feels more like Alien than Phantom Menace felt like the original Star Wars trilogy.
They don't want to call it an Alien movie because the last several movies officially "Alien" have been a joke. Opinions differ on Alien 3, but Resurrection and the AVP movies are things you very wisely would not want to associate Prometheus with.

I think the stories are supposedly adjacent rather than linear. But you're right; Alien and Prometheus intersect directly.

This film takes place on LV 223 not LV 426. Same Galaxy not same planet. Ridley Scott says if they keep with Prometheus they'd be 4 films from Alien. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-18298709
It has the same DNA as Alien, but is not a prequel

I still think that anything that sheds light on how the strange alien ship got there from Alien and Aliens is a bit of a prequel and it's quite obvious that the "Alien" title has been dragged through a ton of mud so it's a good marketing decision. There's even the famous "space jockey" guy from the Giger paintings.
The ship they arrive in looks a ton like the ship from the first alien films as well.

Much better than Iron Man 2, which was pretty unremarkable.
Downey is, unsuprisingly, the best part of Avengers...

I will see Batman and Prometheus but I'm also looking forward to the next Bourne movie. I love the bourne franchise and think Renner will be solid. Looks like this movie may be interwoven with the Bourne Ultimatum (which was a great movie)

Scott himself describes the Space Jockey as the touchstone linking Prometheus to Alien. He uses the phrase "opening new doors". To me that's more adjacent and less linear.
Regardless, I am pretty geeked for Scott's return to this genre and I don't think I could possibly be disappointed.
