Anyone got any good recipes for cooking over an open flame?
Especially for breakfast (Bunch of guys)
In the past we've grabbed all the meat we cooked the night before that didn't get eaten and mix it up with a couple dozen eggs. Thinking about getting a little more civilized this year.
Get a dutch oven. tons of stuff you can cook in those things.
I've not done it, but I know guys who use dutch ovens to make a variety of camp favorites (like apple cobbler, etc). Look up dutch oven recipes as there are stews, etc that look real good.
Aside from the old stand by of hot dogs, I've not done a whole lot of over fire cooking. They make pretty nifty accessories in the camp section to do burgers/fish. You can also rig up a grill type set up if you want to do some corn, steak, other grill type items.
The campground we stay at does have grill attachments on top of the firepits so we do a lot of burgers/brats/fish we catch
I gave my wife a dutch oven last night. She wasn't impressed.
However, to be actually helpful, yes, dutch ovens are awesome for camping. Ate all weekend, this was the only pot I used. Biscuits for breakfast, various soups/stews/casseroles, and even scrambled eggs were done in the dutch oven.

Foil packs are good, put a burger with diced up onions, potatos, and carrots. Wrap up in couple layers of aluminum foil and cook right on the hot coals.
Dutch ovens are mandatory for campfire cooking imo.
Outside of that in scouts we used to always make "tin foil dinners". All you do is throw however much meat, veggies, spices etc. in some tinfoil fold it up and lay it on there. After turning it a few times your set. Takes maybe five minutes ish to cook.

I take a griddle with me (available at places like JAX). For breakfast: Bacon, eggs, corn beef hash, and pancakes (get the mix that you just add water and shake).
I have recently gone from a wood fire to charcoal because the smoke was kiling my eyes!

My friends and I went camping all time time and either grilled or cooked "Hobo Meal" which consisted of meat, potatoes, onion and gratuitous amounts of butter wrapped in foil. Throw it on the fire till cooked through, then eat straight out of the foil (who needs plates?).
As long as you have aluminum foil, you can cook just about anything.
I camp almost every weekend in the summer. I dont have a camper so we are use to doing things on our own. If you plan on going all the time Id get one of these.

Propane oven. You can use it to cook and bake anything, 1lb bottle lasts 7 hours.
If you dont want to committ to something like that, I reccomend using a pot with a lid and taking a log and splitting it several ways. As you can see in the picture, you then place your pan or pot on top and cook whatever you need. the benefits of this is you have a stand to set food on with the fire underneath, no sand or dirt popping up into your food. This is especially helpful in places like moab or sandy beaches ect. Obviously you know how to make meat and eggs ect. My favorite thing to make is cut up a bunch of taters real slim, dump lowerys and a ton of peppers and throw them in tin foil with butter. The key is wrap them tight. Throw them in the pot or fire, careful not to let them burn (thats why i use a propane oven).

Ends your need for ice because you can keep meat ect for days. This is helpful if youre up in the mountains ect for days. Also awesome for tailgating.
