    Back from Prometheus

I liked it a lot but maybe the not-as-slow-witted-as-me crowd can explain the opening shot of the movie to me.

If this is a major spoiler, please ignore.

Heard a critic on the radio say that it's better if you don't think of it as belonging to the Alien series.

That phone better be off and/or silenced when the movie starts.

Ive meant to see the alien movies forever. Would it be bad to see this one first (either because you'd need to see those first, or this would ruin some of the effect of watching the originals?)

I don't think it would matter, part of it might make an aha moment for you, but I believe there is a separation between this and those.

The nerdier of sci-fi nerds were all worried that the effects/tech stuff of this one were going to make the originals look bad. Unfounded worry since the originals can more than stand on their own and are ancient history to boot.

You could just see this one without messing anything up.

    Major spoilers.

Are you talking about the very first scene with the being on Earth and drinking the black stuff?

Yes, I guess the highlighted is what flew by me.

umm...it was a turd wrapped like a Christmas present. A pretty film that wants to be "2001" but ends up being stupid and logical as "Friday the 13th" IN SPACE.

Very disappointed. I was looking forward to seeing this...and I couldn't believe the let down.

    Re: Back from Prometheus

Saw the late show last night with a friend. We liked it, but didn't love it. I actually rather enjoyed the story overall. The very end wasn't great, but just ok.

I honestly don't know if it helps to have seen Alien or not. Maybe if you know nothing of the first two Alien films, it wouldn't affect your enjoyment or understanding of this one. But I had several "a-ha" moments that tied into what takes place 30 years after the events in Prometheus, and appreciated knowing the 1979 and 1986 films well.

That being said, Alien is one of my top 5 all-time favorite movies. Love it, love it, love it. Prometheus isn't as good as Alien or Aliens, but is better than Alien3. Alien Resurrection is an afterthought, as far as I'm concerned. Must've been the only time Sigourney Weaver ever said "I just feel like getting paid."
All people who make sweepingly generalized, stupid, uninformed comments are idiots.

    (maybe)

    BIG SPOLER!

My theory is that he drank it to poison the others (notice that it went into the water) I think he was trying to save the human race from being killed by his brethren (one good alien out of a lot).
