Age 50 is the baseline for your first one if you've not had any problems. Someone said 45 in here, but I've never heard anything before 50 from any Dr myself.

I have heard if you have a family history of colon cancer you should start talking to a doctor before 50.

The stuff they put into you turns into rocks after the procedure, so be ready.

I plan to prep on a friday morning. That is when I spend time in the can reading Friday Confessions so it will not seem out of the ordinary for me

This, of course, is true. I'm talking about no family history and no issues to date.

    Re: Colonoscopy

Have not had to do one of these yet. No family history at all, so that helps. Not looking forward to it, but when the time comes, I know what to do now!

Takes some people much longer than others since it can take awhile to get their heads out of the way.

Google Lynch Syndrome, also called Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer. There are other hereditary cancer syndromes, but this is the most common in relation to colorectal cancer.

For someone without a history, it is 50 with 10 year intervals.

Based on your family history, it can be earlier (usually 40 or 10 years before the youngest colorectal cancer diagnosis).

People with hereditary cancer syndromes, like Lynch, can have yearly colonoscopies.

    Re: Colonoscopy

I had one at age 50.... as recommended by my family doctor. They found (and removed) many large, precancerous polyps. I went back for another scan this year (three year followup) and everything was just fine. The doctors told me that the procedure most likely saved me from an early death.

The wife and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this year. Life is good.

note: All three of my children will be attending ISU this coming Fall as a Freshman, Sophomore and a Senior. My family depends upon me and I'm really glad I got the colonoscopy.

    Re: Colonoscopy

I was able to mix my colon blow with Gatorade, helped a little with the flavor but not as much as I would prefer.

    Re: Colonoscopy

My dad did it last year when he turned 50. I had the privilege of driving him there and back. The drive home he was constantly ripping ***, but it was all air so it didn't smell. It was just really funny. We're immature like that.

    Re: Colonoscopy

30min in... it felt like everything I ate the last 10 years was leaving my body.

I should also mention that I am not doing the chalky stuff, I'm using a newer thing that only requires 32oz of liquid and tastes like grape
