Geode Hunting In Iowa?
I used to go when I was a little kid with my parents, and would like to take my girlfriend out to do this because I think she would have fun. Anyone know of a good place in southeast Iowa to do this? I'm looking for a state park type place with lots of Geodes in it. Anyone been out to do this recently? I remember there being a lot of water moccasins.

I'll sell you some good geode decoys to help bring them in.

I remember there being a lot of water moccasins. Wildcat Springs, in Hamilton, IL is right across the river from Keokuk. I go there all the time with my family to collect geodes and the place is littered with geodes despite being constantly picked over. I HAVE seen several water moccasins there over the years, though...
I've heard of people having success in Geode State Park, but (if you can find someone that will let you) I've been most successful with creeks on private land that don't get the big crowds that other places do. I pulled a 50lb quartz geode with great crystal structure a couple years ago just south of the Iowa-Missouri border.

Re: Geode Hunting In Iowa?
I've got a stand set up on a little public land here in North Central IA. Nothing yet, I think they're a lot more active in the southern part of the state this time of year.
Good news though, water moccasins aren't found in Iowa, unless one wanders in from the south. You're seeing Common Watersnakes. Bite hurts like hell, but you get to live to ***** about it.

I like it when someone puts a video camera on them so we can watch them being born. Very cute.

Sounds like a few people on here get stuck in a groove and don't think outside the box

Plus it relieves stress/anger when smashing them open.
