I do wonder if PSU will actually lose many recruits for this, though, if they don't suffer any type of penalty (i.e. loss of games, death penalty, etc.). I'm sure there will be special transfer allowances made for those kids to make it as painful as possible. They'll almost all still get to play Div. I football. I don't think they're getting victimized all that much.

Watched several different news broadcasts over lunch. The major networks are setting this up as it will be an everday story for the forseeable future.
The CNN segment felt almost like a political ad. Brief clips of Freeh giving report then cutting to pages of text containing choice quotes from the report with scathing commentary and dramatic music in the background.
Way beyond reporting the news, its almost like they are trying to sway public opinion.

Way beyond reporting the news, its almost like they are trying to sway public opinion. It's all just part of the continual "Geraldo-izing" of television news.

This is extremely disgusting, the football program needs to be suspended. I know it is not the players fault but it is a team and everybody gets punished. I used to have a huge respect for Jopa, but now I think he needs to be stripped of his achievements. The punishment should be so severe that no other university ever commits a crime like this.

The best way to prevent this in the future is to have a big punishment now as a precedent. Schools need to know that the law is above any program and any coach. I don't blame the entire PSU school, fanbase, etc, but a clear message about what schools and coaches can and can't do in regards to the law needs to be sent and heard as loudly as possible in every school in the country. Paterno was a disgusting, shameful excuse for a human being who won a lot of games. Don't let those wins blind you to what he allowed to happen.

Rip down that stupid trophy of the child rapist harborer...
I hope Penn State isn't relevant in college football for at least a decade. Grant all scholarshiped players an unconditioned release.

Re: Penn State University - The Freeh Report
so incredibly disgusting. So sad for the victims, so much anger for all the "adults" that let this continue to happen. There is not a punishment strong enough. The program is worth being complicit in child rape?
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come. -

Way beyond reporting the news, its almost like they are trying to sway public opinion. There are reasons that CNN ratings are swirling the drain. Who watches that crapstation any more?

The best way to prevent it would have been to not take 10 years to catch them covering it up. Mark my cynical words, some school will see a punishment and the lesson they'll take away is to do a better job covering it up because they don't want to pay that penalty.
