Exactly. I have not kept up with the details of the case, but it would be pretty easy for someone to stage that.
I assume it is/was explicitly known by the grandma that the girls were intending to go to the lake? Would not be hard for someone to pick them up, find out that is where they were headed, and drop the bikes and scent off.
That is not correct. From everything I have read and from the interviews, the grandma did not know they were intending to go to the lake. The lake is not that close to the grandma's house. It was a normal occurence for the girl's to ride, but in close proximity to the grandma's house (within shouting distance).

If true, it strengthens the plausibility of the location of the bikes to be a ruse.
The parents seem to be pretty sketchy and one of the kids had tried to run away a couple of weeks ago.
Had not heard the part about one of the girls trying to run away previously. Is that a town rumor or something that has been published? It certainly makes one look at the case differently.
Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

Published. I read the article. The grandmother said she stopped the girl at the door and she was in tears. Grandma calmed her down and she stayed. I can't find the article I read that in right now...
Think the divers are for deep spots that are hard to drain.
the FBI has asked them to stop because it is bringing in a dive team to search the lake and at least six feet of water is needed. The team will also search deeper pockets of water in the lake.
So they have drained the lake for 2 days and have found no sign of the girls. We are talking about kids here. How far out in the lake could they possibly go? No way are they in that 5 acre lake.

This is what I read as well. The topographical map would suggest w/o the use of pumps there will still be water in the deep spot. My understanding is that this is a not a traditional Iowa "Damned" lake so the drain would be more of an overflow. Most damned lakes have the deep spot next to the damn and opening the gates would allow the lake to drain completely (or close to) but this lake has the deep spot close to the center of the lake away from any drains.
They drained this lake three years ago. Someone has to know the lay of the land...? If there is deep areas why wouldn't the FBI be proactive and bring these guys in on Monday, Tuesday or even Wed...?
