It's right on a bike trail, and I think there's a bike trail there as well. It's not CVNT, as that runs through Gilbertville, but there is a bike path there.

I would think that someone would see them either enter the lake or get abducted, I'm not familiar with the area but how far away are roads from the point in which they found the bikes? I would think the further the roads are away from the place in which the bikes were found means that it is less likely that someone abducted them.

I-380/Highway 20 is about fifty feet from where the bikes would have been found. That's why a lot of people up here aren't sure the girls actually left the bikes there.

The lake is right next to highway 380 and people live along the lake. I think there is walking path around it.

On a different note: I had a classmate that caught 3-4lb piranha in this lake back in the early 90's?

Don't drowning victims typically surface in 4-5 days?

I know they could be caught under something and if they were my kids I'd want them to drain the Pacific Ocean they found my kids bikes next to it, but this doesn't seem very likely to lead to anything.

It seems as if the divers are pretty confident that there was nothing in the lake, however, they city wants to be 100% sure and the only way to make 100% sure is to drain the lake. As a parent I would want them to do the same thing, maybe they are just doing it to try to show that they are willing to do anything to find their children.

My guess it was a river that was damed. They are just opening the dam all the way.

Well if it was dammed like someone said above then you just re-dam it.

This is possible as is using a large irrigation pump for areas that won't adequately drain.

Very sad situation. I hope the girls are found safe.

Sounds to me like it's an abduction... My theory is the kidnappers picked them up some other place, took the bikes/purse, and planted them fairly close to the lake... That way it could get confused with the drowning possibility and it would give them more time to make a getaway... Very sad either way, and I hope I'm not right...
