Questions about EL wire

I have an idea that involves a lot of EL wire but only 8 inches long each section.

Can I cut EL wire anywhere on the strand and strip some of it back and solder it up? Does it actually need to be soldered or can I twist it with other wire? How much will say 4 D cell batteries last with about 30 feet of EL wire? Or is there some conversion I can find and do some number crunching?

Anything else I need to know about EL wire?

No idea. But pre-dial 9-1 and have a fire extinguisher handy. You sound like a local news story waiting to happen.

Father was has a bachelors in EE from ISU, and was an electrician for 12 years. I think I'll be ok

Waiting for him to come home and I don't even know if he's ever worked with EL wire. Just seeing if anyone on here could answer

I'd just twist it and wrap it in electrical tape.
