    Yeah, that's kind of unsettling...

A San Diego woman identifying herself as James Holmes's mother spoke briefly with ABC News this morning.
She had awoken unaware of the news of the shooting and had not been contacted by authorities. She immediately expressed concern that her son may have been involved.
"You have the right person," she said.

Unsettling, but sadly a parent can only do so much. You'd like to think you can raise someone to avoid that, but the mind is more complex than we'll ever know..

Maybe if they focused more on actually raising their children instead of working to ban things that they feel might harm them, we wouldn't have these problems.

    This shooting sickens my soul.

What a terrible way to lose a child. You have to imagine a large majority of people in the theater at that time of night were in the 16-30 age range.

Hindsight is 20/20 but nobody noticed a guy wearing a bullet proof vest walking into the building? I'm no expert, but I've noticed that anytime you see someone wearing one of those, bad **** is about to go down.

I believe he came in through the emergency exit, not through the entrance.

Initially, I was thinking the same thing as you though.

How is the mother's comment unsettling at this point?

That explains it, thank you. Sadly, I think this information means that this is not the act of a lunatic but of a cold blooded killer.

See, that is exactly why this was (in my opinion) very brutally crafted and planned. Late night opening of a major film...where these noises were going to be already in the movie, and where some people may choose to dress up in their best costume. I see how they could have very easily made the mistake to not see that.

the fact that a mother hears about a terrible atrocity, and immediately suspects her child could be responsible? That's not a little unsettling to you? If your own mom thinks you're capable of something so horrible?

News this morning said several people were dressed up for the movie. That would make what the killer did even more chaotic.

It implies that she knew he was a ticking bomb. Still, you can't legally do something until they've proven themselves to be just that. It's frustrating as hell at times, but it's also an important protection for individual liberty.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I'm sure this was a well planned, well executed murder of innocent people rather than a crazy gunman.

The lady was woken up by the call, and we have no clue what the question was.

Is this the mother of James Holmes who lives in Colorado?

    You have the right person.

A mentally ill person can also be a careful planner. The two aren't mutually exclusive. It's too early to know if this person is truly mentally ill, or just a horrible human being. Either is possible at this point.
