"You have the right person," she said.

Unsettling, but sadly a parent can only do so much. You'd like to think you can raise someone to avoid that, but the mind is more complex than we'll ever know..

Pretty soon these people are going to run out of excuses as to why their children are all messed up and may have to actually look in the mirror. Then what are they going to do, I wonder? Maybe if they focused more on actually raising their children instead of working to ban things that they feel might harm them, we wouldn't have these problems.
This shooting sickens my soul.

Re: Mass Shooting at Batman Premiere in Colorado
What a terrible way to lose a child. You have to imagine a large majority of people in the theater at that time of night were in the 16-30 age range.
Hindsight is 20/20 but nobody noticed a guy wearing a bullet proof vest walking into the building? I'm no expert, but I've noticed that anytime you see someone wearing one of those, bad **** is about to go down.

Initially, I was thinking the same thing as you though.

How is the mother's comment unsettling at this point?

Initially, I was thinking the same thing as you though. That explains it, thank you. Sadly, I think this information means that this is not the act of a lunatic but of a cold blooded killer.

Late night opening of a major film...where these noises were going to be already in the movie, and where some people may choose to dress up in their best costume. I see how they could have very easily made the mistake to not see that.

That would make what the killer did even more chaotic.

Still, you can't legally do something until they've proven themselves to be just that. It's frustrating as hell at times, but it's also an important protection for individual liberty.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I'm sure this was a well planned, well executed murder of innocent people rather than a crazy gunman.

Is this the mother of James Holmes who lives in Colorado?

A mentally ill person can also be a careful planner. The two aren't mutually exclusive. It's too early to know if this person is truly mentally ill, or just a horrible human being. Either is possible at this point.
