Glad to hear someone else say what I have been thinking for a long time. There is something lacking - in character - in Shawn Johnson. Compare to Michelle Kwan, who left skating, got a master's degree, has become involved in work with the State Department as 'soft power' embassador, meeting government leaders of foreign countries and young people around the world, is on the President's Council on Olympics. All of this far away from cheap Hollywood shows and money.

I have more respect for Lolo Jones - who stuck with her athletics, despite problems, kept on working in some fashion in the athletics field, and did not 'go Hollywood', did not chase too much after money ( a few endorsements, but more practice, more trying to perfect her sport), and now.... Go Lolo!! Wish her the best in London.

Want to be careful not to bash Shawn Johnson too much - her screaming teenage fan club will chase after me, or Dances with the Stars will bash me on TV. Shawn is going through a phase - with an appearance on 'Go On', ...what...ridiculing mental patients?

    Whoa, what is that?

Shawn has had a hard time - adjusting to the highs and lows of fame. She needs to find a way to fade gracefully back into normal life. I do appreciate her involvement with fund raising - donation to Blank Children's Hospital - those are all good things. So she is not really bad - not quite on the high moral road - just, forgettable.

Blind hate often makes one conveniently forget stuff. Please explain how guest appearances on The Simpsons and Family Guy are far away from cheap Hollywood shows and money.

Kwan has guest starred as herself in "Homer and Ned's Hail Mary Pass", an episode of The Simpsons, and in the Family Guy episode "A Hero Sits Next Door". She has also made guest star appearances in the children's cartoon television series Arthur the PBS Series, and has also appeared in Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. She provided the voice of a shopkeeper in Disney's direct-to-DVD sequel Mulan II, and she and fellow figure skater Brian Boitano appeared as announcers in the film Ice Princess. She has performed in numerous figure skating programs, and has cameo appearances in various other television series. In 1999, she appeared in the Michelle Kwan Figure Skating computer game.[24]

Kwan has had numerous endorsement contracts and has appeared in television commercials for sponsors including Campbell's Soup, VISA, Coca-Cola, and Kraft.[26] The Chevrolet/Michelle Kwan R.E.W.A.R.D.S. Scholarship program was established by the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors in cooperation with Kwan.[27] In February 2006, Kwan was named a "celebrity representative" for The Walt Disney Company.[28]

i don't think not liking shawn = "blind hate".

having someone jammed down your throat ad nauseam by the local media (like shawn, zach, lolo, etc.) kinda makes it hard to root for or support that person IMO.

then factor in that she's pretty stuck up, is a hawk fan, and isn't even relevant in her own sport anymore, and i think it's fair to not want to have to listen to her as an olympic correspondent.

just because she is from iowa doesn't mean we all, as iowan's, must like her and everything she does.

it's not the hawk fan thing. i can't root for zach johnson or lolo jones really either, just because the local media crams them down our throat so much. it's an "i'm tired of hearing about them" thing. the Tebow effect, if you will.

plus, shawn johnson's career is over with. she's just hanging on to the spotlight as long as possible. shawn, you accomplished something pretty great 4 years ago, congrats. now move on with your life.

and what would I have rooted for harrison barnes in before college? I have absolutely no reason to pay attention to HS basketball. yes i graduated from ISU, but that doesn't mean Ames high school winning or losing means jack **** to me.
