Food in your car...

Do you allow it? Recently get a new car - how long we're you able to keep rule in place?

Depends what you mean by eating. Beef Jerky yes. Fast Food never.

I just got a new car too. I was eating lunch yesterday at my job site and I had to decide if I wanted to eat in my Jeep or eat on a wood pile. I ended up eating in my car with air conditioning and music.

Ive never understood the no eating in car crew. Unless you drive a Ferrari, your car isnt nice enough to not eat in it if you need to. I doubt the resale value of your toyota is going to be affected, and unless you are a total mess, I dont see whereas anybody could even tell that youve ever ate in your car.

I have a buddy with a restored classic who had a sales trip recently. His sales partner left M&ms on dash and ended up going into heating vents.

I think it's peace of mind more than anything. It's like the first time you spill something in your new house or newly installed carpet. Or that conversation you have with a girlfriend about her previous boyfriends. Just kind of ruins the feeling. And inevitably there is a Doritos crumb somewhere that never leaves despite the detail and vacuuming

I have kids. I have no choice. No idea how the no food rule was so enforceable when I was a kid.

Impossible rule if you have kids. The main reason I agreed to trade in our minivan for a newer car last year was the faint, but unmistakable smell of sour milk permeating the family truckster. No amount of Febreze will make that smell go away. Worse than getting the smell of a corpse out.

Or so I've been told.

I've never had a car newer than 12 years old at the time I got it and less than 150k miles. I couldn't give a **** about the food.

The beef jerky gives me the"winds" something fierce. But I like the smell of my own "winds" , so the point is moot.

Adults = no restrictions
Kids = only water to drink and no sauces, ketchup, ect with food.

We also bought the stain protection warranty from Toyota.

Nothing more I would love than to drip a big ol glop of bigmac on fresh ferrari leather. Then grab the shifter yank hard, jam the loud pedal, and watch smoke and fries fly everywhere.

It's only allowed on the Highway. I'm not worried about the value of my car as much as the value of my time. My kids, as they have gotten older, have gotten better at it, but it doesn't change the fact that they spill unintentionally and it makes a mess. So it's restricted to road trips where we have no option but to have them eat.
