[quote=Cycl1;2981265]That is a neighbor down here in AL actually. Says he's an Auburn professor. Big football fan and he's very excited about Mo and A&M joining the SEC. He thinks they'll fit right in culturally.

Apparently our yard must have the smartest ground squirrels and the dumbest ants around. Tried seeds stuck with peanut butter during the day yesterday. Came home to find swirls of ants in the water and covering the board leading to the bucket. Dumped the bucket in the garden, moved it and added water and seeds with the board pathway leading from a raised bed (only about 8") to the top of the bucket. No PB, just seeds. Seeds gone this morning. No ground squirrels in sight. They're probably laughing at me from a hideout.
Switched over to a small Havaheart trap (rat/chipmunk size). Works well baited with sunflower seed, corn and peanut butter. After a week without chips I saw some digging activity again. I am wondering if the neighboring hordes are moving into the newly abandoned “housing” and underground food stores left by the dearly departed. Saw fresh diggings today and set out the trap and "click", another one in like 30 minutes. Shoveled in the openings and will monitor. Hoping this is not like whack a mole.
I miss the hawks that used to nest a few houses away from me.
Place a few mothballs under the leaves of your hostas and the rabbits will leave them alone. A good quality pellet gun is a great deterrent as well.

Don't know if either of these will help you.
Made a death bucket yesterday in 5 minutes after my wife found a mouse in the dog food in the garage (mouse dispatched). New bag of dog food now inside the house per wife's insistence. Figured where there is one, there's at least two, and if you don't get on top of that quick you end up with an infestation. I don't feel like sweeping up mouse droppings all the time so no more food in the garage. Death bucket got kill #1 last night. Hopefully that'll be it, but going to leave it in action for awhile. I was working in the garage yesterday and a chipmunk came right inside. Hoping they don't know a way in or I'll have to raise the level of the water.
Another thread on this. Maybe CW, needs to set aside a place for you guys to talk about your animal problems.
Congrats you killed a chipmunk.
