Contract IT Jobs in Ames/Des Moines

Do any of you guys do weekend or night IT contract/temp work in Ames/Des Moines?

I've been doing these on the side this summer along with my full time and I'm loving the extra cash. I would love to be able to do that during school but none of the companies I'm doing these kinds of things for, have anything in Iowa.

Example: I've been doing PC refreshes at banks on the weekends making $20 an hour or so for the past 2 months. I had a night job wear I was upgrading computers to windows 7 for $18 an hour. A weekend of tech support for another place for $20 an hour.

Things like that. These are all 1099 and temporary.

Technically no, trying to find IT staffing companies that serve Central Iowa that anyone has used in the past.

QCI, Robert Half, Palmer Group, Midwest Staffing, Sogeti, Technisource, Volt

Just a few of the 70+ staffing firms in DSM. These do have IT divisions with recruiters focusing just in IT.

I've worked with visiont in the past and enjoyed that, I don't know all of the types of work they handle though. I didn't enjoy my interactions with Robert Half staff, several times they contacted me, I tried to call back, never heard another thing until a year later or something and same person sends me the "same" email.

I've worked with people from QCI, Sogeti, and Volt, and they didn't seem to have any complaints. Palmer is local as well, so they probably have some clients they're in with.

I also don't care for Tek Systems, seems like they put up a lot of fake jobs to get you into their system.

Stay away from Robert Half. Lowest bill rates in town.

I agree, RH is scary. I was getting helpdesk admins from them for $25 an hour. I can only imagine what the poor guys were making. I would only use them for a little bit of time until I could make sure they were good admins. Once I did, they were converted to full time at I am guessing triple what they were making before.

I've done a couple things for RH and I am not really satisfied with them. I mean I wouldn't turn down a two day job from them but those are rare for them. They usually like the 3month to hire type thing.
