    Spicing up your burgers

Seems to be a lot of discussion about burgers and condiments lately. Oh well, it is almost tailgating season.

What is your favorite burger seasoning? I've tried Lawry's, which is pretty good on anything, and Weber makes a pretty good steak and burger seasoning. But my new favorite is McCormick's Montreal Steak. This stuff is like magic burger pixie dust.

    Anyone got other favorites?

I just bought the new Lawrys Mediterranean blend and plan to try it on the burgers soon. I do like the Montreal as well.

Sometimes I'll get a little crazy and throw some salt and pepper on them, just when the wife isn't home of course.

You are making a burger not a meatloaf.

And I've been using that McCormick Montreal ever since I got a job at a professional Softball team grilling their burgers. I also noticed the dining centers use it as well (Conversations anyway).
    My teams: (as of 2/27/13)
    Cleveland Browns: 5-11 - .313
    Cleveland Indians: 68-94 - .421
    Cleveland Cavs: 19-38 - .333
    Iowa State Cyclones (FB): 6-7 - .462

    9/22/18 & 9/7/19
    Akron and Iowa State

    Re: Spicing up your burgers

I have to admit, I'm a bit of a simpleton when it comes to burgers. If the meat is good, I'm basic salt and pepper guy. I don't eat red meat as much as I used to, so when I do eat it, I want the meat to shine through. I'd probably go no further than Lawry's though. I am boring that way.

It's one of those things that bothers me about those burger competitions they have on the food network sometimes. They add so much to the burger itself, it loses it's identity, is it a clambake or a burger? Is that a lasagna sandwitch or a burger? Don't get me wrong, I definitely would not be opposed to a clambake sandwitch and I love lasagna, but at the end of the day, when I get a taste for a burger, a good ol burger is what I want.

As I posted in the "Iowa's best burger" thread I have gone as far to stuff a burger before, putting onions, cheese and mushroom inbetween two patties, thensealing it shut. This is good, but usually requires cooking a little longer than I prefer. It's nice for a change, but as I said above, and kind of like the most interesting man, I don't always eat burgers, but when I do, I prefer the basics

As also said in the other thread though, where I get the meat probably would make a huge difference in how it's prepared. I only get it fresh ground from the Butcher I go to, so it's really good really fresh meat, it's hard to want to cover that up.

Montreal's spicy steak seasoning is also excellent. I also started rubbing Himalayan salt onto steaks and in burgers. Not as salty as regular salts with a unique flavor.
