Was walking the dogs last night and a giant wasp-type thing flew right over my head. It was so big I thought it was small bird until I saw the the black & yellow markings and its giant frickin' stinger hanging down. I came across it again when I got home, it looked like it was building a nest in the ground. I looked online and I THINK it was a cicada killer wasp. Fortunately, I read they are not real aggressive toward humans. Anyone else had a similar experience with one of these big boys?

My daughter's 10U softball team had a practice on a field that was infested with these things. The girls were nervous, but practiced like champs with these things buzzing around them. There were about five of them floating around the infield, and the holes for their nests were plainly visible throughout the infield.
This signature has received the stamp of disapproval from that one guy.

I follow an Iowa Outdoors forum and someone posted some pics on there with these beasts. They were pretty impressive. The damn thing was hauling a big *** cicada back to it's lair!!

There have been a couple of males living in my backyard for the past couple years. They are almost always buzzing around in the backyard, but haven't had any issues with them bothering humans or our dogs.

I've run into those before. It's kind of neat to see them when they're actually carrying a dead cicada. They can barely fly, and move really slow. They're absolutely giant though. If one decided to sting you on the arm, it might just poke a hole all the way through!

"Passersby were amazed by the unusually large amounts of blood."

I don't think they are afraid of anything. They mess with my dog all the time and they have had no problem buzzing around me. I feel like they know how intimidating they are and they almost mess with you for fun.

That's just what you're supposed to say when people are scared of things like that I think.
