Does any other dads out there have problems with their son pretty much going against every single team they like? My son is about to turn 7 and it drives me nuts that he pulls for every team opposite of me. I try not to show it anymore but I wish he would like one of my teams.
My wife's little cousin became a Cyclone fan because of the kids in his neighborhood which ticked his dad off (who is a lifelong Hawkeye along with the rest of our extended families). I laughed about it but now the same thing has happened to me. My son likes the Hawkeyes and roots for every sport team that plays against mine. I even had to explain to him to stop rooting against Waukee because he was going to be hopefully playing for them someday. At least my wife's little cousin is a Cubs fan like his dad so they have that to share.
Take him to a basketball game at Hilton and stick around to say hi to the players after the game. Getting to meet someone "famous" is cool and almost instantly makes them a part fan... Especially if they get personal

What turned me against Iowa (however, it was toward Michigan) was going to a UM-Iowa match up as a kid (I was either 7 or 8). I ended up having stuff thrown at me because I cheered when Michigan either made a big run or scored. That made me dislike that fanbase more than anything. Also, at the same time, it did turn me into a Michigan fan, and I nearly went there for college.
He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man.
My son is only 3 weeks old so I don't have to worry about that yet, but I am a little concerned he's going to become a hawkeye fan due to the strong hawkeye neighborhood
My daughter did the same thing when she was around 10, I just shrugged it off and said if you want hawk gear you buy it yourself or get it as gifts from someone else. Now she's a senior in high school, met a few people and come back around to pulling for the good guys. The harder you push the louder he'll cheer.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not dude?

my twin boys just turned 1 on Wednesday and I'm teaching them to say go cyclones (no luck yet ). but I will teach them that saying go hawks is cussing and they shouldn't say that.

My 2.5 year old yells Touchdown Cyclones! Even if I'm watching a different team or pros.
