    Re: Tailgating generators

If you're going to have a generator (as more and more do, including ours these days -thanks terryk), have one of the quiet ones. The loud ones get damn annoying.

The quiet ones cost more, but your neighbors like you more.

    Re: Tailgating generators

Our group actually built a 'muffler' type box to put over the generator to help reduce the noise.

In the RV lot where putting it on the other side of the bus isn't a huge problem given how spaced out you are there. Try to match up with the neighbors too...

    Re: Tailgating generators

Where we park, everyone tailgates off the back of the vehicles.

Since we park in the first row, if you move the generator out next to the access road, no one will be tailgating within 20 feet at least.

I usually park in the middle of a group of friends, so its not like strangers are getting bombarded with it.

    I didn't know Alco's still existed..
I hadn't even heard of them before moving to far northeast Iowa.

That's got to be in a motorhome. Ours is a 5.5 Kw Quiet Gas Onan and I love it. Quiet and powerful.

I've been eying the Honda 2000 myself. I don't use much electricity much when I tailgate, but overkill is my middle name

I've never had that happen to me, but you see that alot.

Spending seven grand on a generator just for tailgating is not worth it unless you are a millionare. I bought a 750 watt inverter and bought a marine battery 5 years ago, spent about $200 on the high side.

    Re: Tailgating generators

The comments about noise should be taken into account. Some generators are so loud that those near them can't even have a conversation. In the RV lots those with loud ones try to get there early and put them down in the ditch and use long cords. That is always appreciated. A buddy of mine actually collected cans during every tailgate and in a couple of years had enough $ to get a beautiful Honda. Soooo quiet. Soooo nice.

We always shut our on board generator off at night because of noise impacting sleepers.

Dont have one myself but my suggestion is to insulate the inside of the box to kill as much of the sound as possible. Then just make a hole by the exhaust pipe or muffler
