Because I wanted to see if it would feel better today. Nope, I had to stay sitting the last 3 hours of the day and taught from my desk all afternoon.

I broke my knee cap sophomore year college and it hurt like heck. I injured it on a Friday night after the bars and the following morning it was swollen like no other and I could barely put any pressure on it. Partied again Saturday night (which I paid for on Sunday) and went to urgent care first thing Monday morning. They took x-rays but said I just had a bad bruise, however, when they took the x-ray they never took one from the top down.

It hurt for several months and I tried to ignore the pain and go about my daily routine until I finally ended up going back to the doctor. They took x-rays again and this time they took a top down view and right away the doctor lets out a "hmmm" that's interesting as I see a big line down the middle of my knee cap. He says, "you broke it". I'm like what the heck as for months I was led to believe it was just a bruise.

I was then referred for an MRI which turned out negative for any torn ligaments, etc but essentially stayed off the knee for like 3 months to allow the knee to heal. After going through it, I've learned there is not a lot you can do for a broken knee cap except rest and ice to keep the swelling down so the knee can heal. I think I have some scar tissue in the knee as it still bothers me from time to time but not much a guy can do for it.

Good luck with it and I would definitely recommend going to the doctor to know for sure as had I known from the start I had actually broken my knee cap I would have taken it easy from the start.
Just a question, but when you did that, did it ever feel like your kneecap was sliding in front of your shin when you would straighten out your leg?

OK - how could you hope that this would get better if that's what is going on in there? That seems to be all kinds of wrong.

Yeah, that's broken and starting to displace. Broke mine in h.s. and it looked like that. Go to a doctor immediately.

I didn't feel that happening until this afternoon. It wasn't like that yesterday.

It's either that or you tore something, it's displacing, and you have an abnormally pointy patella.

When I bit clean through my lip playing flag football at ISU and needed 9 stitches in my upper lip, saw what that looked like in the mirror, I decided then and there that seeing my insides was not something for me.

I think you need to be bled. Get some leaches and let them have their fill. You'll feel better after that.

    Re: Fractured Patella (kneecap)

Didn't break my kneecap, just bruised the hell out of it, and strained all the ligaments.
