Originally Posted by jonnyb21 I broke my knee cap sophomore year college and it hurt like heck. Partied again Saturday night (which I paid for on Sunday) and went to urgent care first thing Monday morning. They took x-rays but said I just had a bad bruise, however, when they took the x-ray they never took one from the top down.
It hurt for several months and I tried to ignore the pain and go about my daily routine until I finally ended up going back to the doctor. They took x-rays again and this time they took a top down view and right away the doctor lets out a "hmmm" that's interesting as I see a big line down the middle of my knee cap. He says, "you broke it". I'm like what the heck as for months I was led to believe it was just a bruise.
I was then referred for an MRI which turned out negative for any torn ligaments, etc but essentially stayed off the knee for like 3 months to allow the knee to heal. After going through it, I've learned there is not a lot you can do for a broken knee cap except rest and ice to keep the swelling down so the knee can heal. I think I have some scar tissue in the knee as it still bothers me from time to time but not much a guy can do for it.
Good luck with it and I would definitely recommend going to the doctor to know for sure as had I known from the start I had actually broken my knee cap I would have taken it easy from the start. Just a question, but when you did that, did it ever feel like your kneecap was sliding in front of your shin when you would straighten out your leg?

OK - how could you hope that this would get better if that's what is going on in there? That seems to be all kinds of wrong.

Re: Fractured Patella (kneecap)
I think you need to be bled. Get some leaches and let them have their fill. You'll feel better after that.

Re: Fractured Patella (kneecap)
Didn't break my kneecap, just bruised the hell out of it, and strained all the ligaments.
