opening story on channel 8 news at 10
Anyone see this, an Ames woman coming home from Missouri has her vehicle accelerator stick, crazy.

1. Use your foot to get underneath the gas pedal and pry it up.
2. If 1 doesn't work, pop your car in neutral, turn off the engine, and stop the car.

This may have been better the advice 30 years ago -- but turning off the ignition can lock your steering wheel which would be a bad thing.

Depends how far you turn the key. If you turn it one click the wheel doesn't lock (something they teach in driver's ed). As far as keyless FOBs go, I'm pretty sure the wheel doesn't lock unless you have the shifter in park. I'd have to check on my Altima sometime.

she couldn't shut off the vehicle or shift out of drive. I would imagine that she was panicking and wasn't doing something right to not be able to shift out of drive or shut it off, but it would be scary nonetheless at the time. I doubt she would be the only person to have trouble in that situation.

Put it in neutral (and let the engine blow, if need be) while you apply the brakes, then shut it off when the car comes to a stop.
