WHO-TV Now Trying To Strong-Arm DirecTV for More Money
Deadline - 12AM Saturday Important Message for DirecTV Customers from WHO-HD | WHOTV.com
Apparently they forgot we can get their channel for free with an antenna
Can't imagine what leverage they think they have.

Are they including all NBC networks?
I can't remember the last time I watched NBC outside of the Olympics.

Sound/Off is about all I watch on WHO. We watch more KCCI and ESPN than any other channels.

How many ISU games will be on NBC this year? Zero? Just Notre Dame? I think I'll live.

Re: WHO-TV Now Trying To Strong-Arm DirecTV for More Money
Our local small town cable provider just raised our cable rate by $4.00 solely because the amount that the over-the-air channels charge them has gone up by more than 200%.

Re: WHO-TV Now Trying To Strong-Arm DirecTV for More Money
Nothing new. As long as the FCC allows it, the owners of over-the-air broadcast stations will be able to hold cable and satellite companies hostage. Pay up or we're shutting off the signal. Programming fees are out of control (ESPN is the worst), and the providers have no choice but to pass that along to subscribers to recup some of the cost.

Time for these satellite and cable companies to strike a deal with an out of area or national station for the network (ABC, CBS, NBC) programming. See if NBC Omaha or Chicago wants to be on in Des Moines. The local content (news, etc.) isn't worth a dime.

WHO13 is the best option in Des Moines in just about every way. They would completely sweep it if Metinka worked there, IMO.

Yep. The FCC really puts cable companies over a barrel too. Were it not for FCC rules, anytime WHO or Fox or whoever tried to demand a rate increase, a company like mediacom could just pump in an affiliate from another iowa market (sure, you might miss some local news, but for the most part, most wouldnt notice as long as their prime time lineup was still on)
The irony is that the local stations probably benefit more from cable\sat coverage than they contribute. Without their coverage, a lot of people would have poor signal or these days dont even have an antenna at all. Itd be interesting to see a cable company actually stick to its guns when it said no instead of caving again and again... eventually the advertisers would not be happy.

I think the only thing I watch on NBC is soundoff on sundays (do they have any new primetime content?)... I'm ok with hitting the 'source' button on my remote to antenna once a week
