    Tile edge question

I'm tiling half way up my bathroom wall and the tile I'm using is a slate tile. There's no bullnose end piece for these. How can I finish the edge without a bullnose?

You can get plastic edges strips that you tuck under the edge tiles and grout into the array.

They make a metal edge restraint jsut for that purpose. Menards has them.

Here is something similar... Tile Edge Protector for Floors and Walls

    Re: Tile edge question

Some stone places will profile them, but it is expensive ($8 to $10 per lin ft). Looks way better than a metal or plastic cap. If it was me, I would do this, or just leave a raw edge and caulk + seal

    Re: Tile edge question

I would recommend using a schluter product. This is what we typically see in commercial and residential(contractor built) projects. They have a bunch of different profiles. I believe you can get it at any tile/stone shop that isn't a big box store.

This is also the same stuff I had my dad install over the summer when we retiled his entry/guest bathroom. Some of their product is expensive, but I don't think the trims are that bad and they look great!

I believe for the trim you are wanting, you would want the Rondec-DB profile.

    Re: Tile edge question

If you have a wet saw you can get a blade that makes edge not sure if you can rent one, or you can use schluter.

didn't know that, but it's a slate tile and i'm sure it would splinter and i doubt i'd be able to get a good edge at all.

    Re: Tile edge question

you could just use some sandpaper to polish the edge of slate. start with 120 or 220 grit with a little water and work your way up to 500 grit. just try on a scrap piece, you might get lucky. may be the cheapest option at a few dollars.

I'd just go with plastic tubing and caulk. But I'm lazy.

    Re: Tile edge question

It might but if you can get the blade it would be worth trying.
