    Return of stolen items

This morning I got a call from the Des Moines PD saying they had my iPod after someone tried to sell it at a pawn shop yesterday. It originally got stolen back in March after my car was broken in to (driver's window shattered). Needless to say, I'm pretty pumped to go pick it up! Really glad I took the time to file a report and give them the serial # of the device.

Anyone else have any cool stories like this?

If he's like me, when I buy something of value and it has a serial number I take a picture of it and write it down in a separate location should my PC get stolen too. (Guns, cameras, laptop, gaming systems, etc.)

I found it by looking at the registered devices under my Apple ID on their website.

My brother got his cd player back after it was stolen in Ames campustown. Had to wait until after the trial though I think.

Very cool - when I've had things stolen I get more ****** about the fact someone stole the thing and just want the person to get caught.

Yeah I believe if you take the time to register your purchase they will also have record of your serial #.

I was traveling to a small town this summer and got a call from my credit card company. They told me that my card had been found (which I didn't even know I had lost) and they had the phone number and address of the person who had found it. I got the information and immediately call the person. I drive to her house and thank her and her husband very much because I wouldn't have realized the card had been missing until the next day. The women told me that she was going to turn the card into the restaurant she found it at but she didn't have a good feeling that they would do anything. I probably chatted with them for about hour and thanking them quite a bit. I had the intention of giving them some money but I got the feeling that if the same thing had happened to them that they would hope someone would do the same thing. I left feeling pretty good that there are still people out there that will help a complete stranger.

Edit: I guess my story really isn't about something getting stolen but could have turned into one.

Yea, I was honestly more ticked about my shattered window & having to clean up all the shards of glass in my car. I did learn how to install a window pane in a car, though. So that was kinda fun. Found a replacement at the junk yard for like $40.

I would help you..... drive off a cliff.
