Oaks Golf Course in Ames closed
My dad called me yesterday saying the owner sold out to developers and there are plans to put 4 luxery homes on the land. Laugh all you want on the quality of the course, but it was economical for hackers like me. Nothing like dropping 100 bucks on a twosome at Coldwater Creek -

Homewood is still there and just as much of a garbage golf course.

Yeah, but it didn't have little kids playing basically with their plastic Fisher Price golf clubs

I had my very first eagle at Oaks when I attended ISU. I do remember it pretty much was a goat farm course.

That place was great to take my boys to learn on. I am alittle sad by this.

For students, Veenker on Thursdays is about as good as it gets. $10 for 9 holes.

Re: Oaks Golf Course in Ames closed
yea, I had a membership up there this year, pretty affordable if your just a poor college student wanting to get some golfing in. The plan to build four large estates on the land has been in the works since last year, guess there is just more money in going that route. -

These homes and their lots must be huge if only 4 are going in on the course.

Played up there a few times in college. The only time that I got my wife (GF at the time) golfing was to Oaks.

Re: Oaks Golf Course in Ames closed
The developer has actually owned the golf course for over a decade with the intention of someday developing this area into residential estate lots. The course has gotten to the point where it is losing money, so the development is now going forward.

Did the City make an offer on that land or is the owner only interested in developing it himself?

Totally worth it.
