"Oh, let's see what it says on your application. Good education. Nice references. Convicted with your mother of torture and murder. Longtime Iowa resident. . . . Now, can you type?"

Hard to expect her to be honest on an application and expect to be hired. Apparently she has changed and got away with it for a long time. Can't say that I blame her.

Reading the details of the case every person, no matter their age, knows what they did was horribly wrong.

She may have changed but she deserves nothing in life.

wouldn't a background check involve a SS#? I'm also curious about who tipped them off after so many years.

I looked up the wiki entry on this case earlier.. while i believe she was involved, she was also just a teenager, who i'm going to guess was abused as well by how crazy the mother sounded, which may have caused any involvement on her part in the torture\killing.

Not that you necessarily want to be taking that risk in hiring that person in a position that deals with kids, but given how long its been she could easily be a completely different person just trying to live a life, and not necessarily an axe murderer waiting to strike.
This person is fortunate to be breathing free air. There is no way, given her age and the circumstances of this horrible crime that she committed, that she should be allowed to work with children anywhere.

Exactly what I was thinking. Well its obvious the school district did not do their job period.

As i said, probably not a good decision to be hiring her working with kids.

But without reading much more deeply than the wiki, it wouldnt surprise me if she was also abused by her mother and was a bit ****ed up from that, leading her to be a participant. I think you have to factor in if other psychological elements were present. She ended up getting only a manslaughter conviction for a reason.

I don't know about the death penalty for the mother, definitely not for the daughter..but the mother didn't deserve a 2nd chance. You do something like this, I think its wrong to put them back out in the general population. Serving 20 years and getting back out to live the rest of your life how you choose is insane.

In the old days, it usually occurred by hanging or firing squad. It later developed into different options like the electric chair and lethal injection.

I was thinking in terms of American death penalties, but crucifixion counts!
