Anybody have some experience with these home builders in the Des Moines area? My wife and I love their floor plans but the prices seem a little too good to be true. How do they hold up, how is the building process, and how is the craftsmanship/material quality? Any insight would be appreciated.
Actually any insight into the building process in general would be awesome.
I think my wife and I looked at those homes when we moved over here this past year and I'll be honest, I got the same feeling. These are the 4-5 bedroom houses that are built brand new and sold for less than 100/sf right? When we took our daughter through one of these houses They were running around upstairs while we were talking to the realtor and they sounded like a hurd of elephants (mind you they're 2 and 3 years old and both probably no more than 30 lbs). That and I noticed the one we walked through that you could feel vibrations in the floor on the first floor when some one was walking across it. I don't think that it would've been cause for concern about a failure because all of the house plans have to be stamped by a Struct Engineer but to me it would've been annoying. We ended up going another route.
BTW, I'm not a realtor, competitor, other builder, etc...
My wife and I had our home built in Johnston built by Cornerstone Homes. They do a great job, give you a lot as "standard" and are competitively priced. They custom build so you can choose one of their floor plans or one of your own. Might be worth checking out. They have a website... Google "cornerstone homes Iowa" and you should see it.
My wife and I just built out in West Des Moines this summer. We used Frampton Homes and couldn't be happier. Have not had any problems and love all the craftsmanship. Best advice i can give you in building a house is to let your wife pick out everything :)
