Reasons to have children?
After reading the college costs thread I just wonder why people have a strong desire to have multiple children. I don't not like kids but they just seem so expensive. We both work but i can never understand how people can afford them and still save and live life. All the new parents i know say "you needbto have kids now-youll love it" but part of me just thinks misery loves company. I dont know... what are your thoughts?

I have three kids and being a father is my greatest blessing here on earth! They are expensive and challenging at times, but I wouldn't do it any differently. I love being a dad. I have learned so much about life, relationships, and myself (not always good things). I was fortunate to have a great dad and it is so much fun to take my kids to ISU games just like he did with me.

Re: Reasons to have children?
Why have children? Because this world needs more Cyclone fans.
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this. -

Re: Reasons to have children?
There is nothing greater than being a parent. That is why. It doesnt matter the cost you find ways to make things work. My life would be very dull without my kids.
The gap in our economy is between what we have and what we think we ought to have--and that is a moral problem, not an economic one. - Paul Heyne -

Re: Reasons to have children?
To realize that some things are more important than money, and beyond that, to have something in your life more important than you.
I'd jump in front of a bus for my boy, and I wouldn't even have to think about it. Having someone in your life that you feel that deeply for is both the scariest and most wonderful thing you could experience.

Re: Reasons to have children?
Two reasons:
1) What Cyclonepride said. You see that develop when you find out that your family is expecting.
2) To win this time.

Re: Reasons to have children?
We worship children in this country and it's pathetic. Lots of people should never have kids but they have 3 with 3 different fathers by 21. I laugh at these people with my gf in day to day life but I end up sad because I know we can't stop these people. Eastern Iowa knows what I'm talking about. Trailer park "hawks" I don't even give the time of day as humans

Re: Reasons to have children?
Married 21 years and we're not having kids. Never wanted kids, never felt the societal pressure, not much family pressure (although the family name dies with me)... And at times I think that when we're incarcerated in an old folks home nobody will visit us, but I think that happens anyway more often than not.

Re: Reasons to have children?
I can't give YOU a reason why, because your own reason needs to come from you and your wife. I have known multiple couples who have chosen not to have kids for whatever reasons, and I respect them for that. I do feel bad for those who have made their decision not to and still get pressure from relatives/friends that they are "missing out". My husband's brother and wife don't have kids. Even after having 11 nieces/nephew from the other siblings and being in their 40's they still hear it fom the in-laws.
That being said, we are on baby number 4. (Wasn't exactly planned that way) Ask my husband in a few years as we start 17 years straight of hormonal, teenage girls then 4 in college, then 4 potential weddings--he may say don't do it. ;) The reasons for me are intangible and hard to put into words. We are blessed in the fact that we have made sacrifices for me to stay home with them while they are young and are still able to save for retirement and college. It also helps that my kids have wonderful grandparents, one of whom funds all his grandkids' Jr Cyclone Club memberships. Gotta raise 'em right!

Re: Reasons to have children?
A. Priceless
B. Watching them grow and mature
C. Walking our daughter down the isle (Did I say priceless)
D. Growing old with next generation(s)
4 children all who are loved dearly, my wife was a stay at home mom as I carried the blue collar job, we gave up some toys and decided not to mortgage the house to have them but always seem to have fun vacations and kids were active with sports and camps.
Yah expensive, but each day I look at them with my wife and say "we did good" with what we had and this makes me proud as a husband and father and will for years to come!
Yah, I can understand those (and know some of them) who don't want kids for whatever reason, but will tell you I don't know what I would've done without them. My thoughts anyway.
