I've had good luck buying anything and everything from NewEgg.

Newegg.com - Kaybles Model NMHD-35MM 35 ft. High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet, CL2 rating, 24AWG Gold Plated M-M - HDMI Cables

Just another good website to be aware of.

    Re: HDMI Cable Length

I've run into this issue in office conference rooms before. There are two things that will dictate if the signal will work: 1) strength of the signal from the PC and 2) length of the HDMI cable.

From my experience, laptops and standard PC's output will work up to about 40 ft, 40-50 ft is hit or miss and above 50 feet, you'll be lucky to get a signal through.

I would recommend getting the shortest possible cable that will work and give it a try. If that doesn't work, then you'll need a booster/repeater (or just move your PC closer temporarily, if possible (while you wait for your replacement laptop).

    Good luck!

    Re: HDMI Cable Length

I just skimmed the thread but have you considered HDMI extenders over CAT5, CAT5e or CAT6?

If you have some network cables kicking around you could use your 2 short HDMI cables and connect to the extenders. We use these a lot for our commercial installs.

For only $15.37 each when QTY 50+ purchased - HDMI® Extender Using Cat5e or CAT6 Cable - Extend Upto 98ft | HDMI Extender

Under $20, and up to 98 ft. distance over CAT5e or CAT6.

That Amazon link also has $8 shipping. This site has a 35 footer for a couple bucks less, with $2 shipping. I get almost all my electronic stuff from newegg.

I bought a 40 foot cable for use at tailgates for about 23 bucks. Works great. No image or sound problems.

It's true. When it comes to HDMI cables, thickness > length.

    Re: HDMI Cable Length

My rule of thumb for HDMI cable length is 30' - 35'

It'll probably work. And I'll recommend Monoprice again. Great prices and great customer service, if you have to return something

This response may have actually answered my question, but I'll post it anyway....

If I use a cable to connect my laptop computer (VGA output) to my tv (HDMI input) will I be able to use my tv as the audio source? Or will have to get the sound through my computer, unless I connect the speaker/headphone jack on my computer to the red/white audio inputs on my tv using RCA cables?

VGA is video only - you'll need something additional for sound.

Do you already have a VGA to HDMI adapter? If not, I'd suggest looking at a straight VGA cable, especially if you need longer than 6'. There's no advantage to plugging HDMI into your TV, unless your computer has a DVI or HDMI output. You still need an audio cable, and your video signal is limited by the VGA output.

Yeah, if your computer has HDMI or DVI out use that port for sure, they are digital and will give you a much better picture than the old analog VGA ports. If you don't have those, and your TV has a VGA input, just use a VGA cable the whole way. Your TV will handle processing that signal better than a little adapter converting it will.

Also, anyone looking for an HDMI cable, try this old standby. Just move your computer closer.
