Grass Hill to Run near Ames?

Is there a grass hill in Ames or near Ames?

Should have decent grass for running on and be about 40+meters long and about 25-40 degrees steep.

Run on the grass on the east side of North Hyland.

Bell Avenue I think has grass growing up next to the road now.

Cross country course is a ***** to run.

The cross country course by Towers...as well as the disk golf course by the ice rink are two places I used to run.

The cross country course toward the northwest end has just what you're looking for.

Disk golf course by the ice rink is pretty hilly that'd probably be good.

2nd the disc golf course. Unless it's been changed, hole #1 should be just what you're looking for...

Thanks guys, I haven't been to the disc golf course. The XC hills are too small

Try hole #18 at the Gateway disc golf course. Fairly steep and probably 40-50 yards long. If you're using it to run sprints and get faster, this would be about perfect.

I also think theres a steep grass hill by the tailgating parking lots. Lot A next to the road that runs between the parking lots and JT Stadium. Not quite as long as the dg course, but its a lot steeper.

Frolfing course would be best bet. Running hills bring me back to HS FB conditioning. No thanks

Re: Grass Hill to Run near Ames?

I used to train with the ISU track and XC teams and we would use the XC course as well as this hill on a maintenance path on Veenker golf course. It's an asphalt path, but it was the toughest hill I've have ran. Head north from the green arrow in the link below and you will be presented with a long steep grade that will kick your ***.

Break into the stadium and run the hillsides. At least until they bowl it in.

This is the 18th hole at the Gateway Disc Golf course.

And this is the 1st hole.

Both may fit what you are looking for.

This hill in the XC course/Arboretum may work.
    42.018694,-93.657181 - Google Maps

This is a steep hill, it may have grass on the side, but I recall it was mostly crushed gravel.

Those are what I can think of off the top of my head.

Re: Grass Hill to Run near Ames?

I got to ask, what are you training for that you need more hill than the XC course provides? When I wanted bigger, longer hills, I'd run Hyland.

Re: Grass Hill to Run near Ames?

There is a park (Moore Memorial) just west of University Village and north of Veenker that has a big pond in it . I know the big path around there has some pretty rough hills.

Also on the east side of university village near the maintenance building, there are decent hills that sometimes come fully equipped with scantily clad foreign girls tanning.

Also... Ada Hayden Lake Park (nw side of the lake part of the park) has some good hills. Lots of runners in that area
