The good old days, when MTV actually played music television. I do miss Fab Five Freddy and Yo! MTV Raps!

My parents never banned MTV but once The Real World took over, I banned MTV myself.

That show was EVERYWHERE. I watched a couple of seasons (whatever season had Pedro and Puck), but that was it. I blame that show for the birth of all of the "let's force these people to live in the same house" reality shows.

Ice-t went from talking about killing cops to playing one on T.V. this is a no brainer.

Ice Cube shills for Coors Light - I can't think of any mass market endorsements the OG Ice-T has done.

This. I guess my opinion is with Ice Cube is don't you have to be a somebody first before you can be a sellout?

And while I do find those Coors Light commercials stupid, the stupidity cracks me up.

Buildin' houses and whatnot, all hardcore.

I can't think of any advertisements Ice-T has done, either. I mean, the reality show is pretty awful, but it's not slapping his name all over something to sell it and be an idiot in commercials. He's just showing off his wife's giant booty.

It saddens me that train wreck was once a member of one of the most political, influential pioneer rap groups.

    Re: Bigger sell-out?

Honestly though, why do people get so angry at "sell-outs"? Do we really believe that once they have success and money they should continue to live in the "hood", deal drugs, participate in gang violence, etc. just because that's who they were when they first became famous? Do we really want them to keep pumping out music and other projects that are only pretending that's who they still are, when it's clear that's not where they are at in life anymore?

As a Caucasian woman living in a suburban midwest town, I am not at all bothered by them selling out. They really don't represent at all who I am, I just enjoy a style of music. More than anything, it's just an interesting social commentary. If they are not innovating or creating relevant music, contributing to the music scene - I agree, they should bounce.

I do see how, though, perhaps someone who is an inner-city youth, someone who felt like the rappers were speaking for/representing them, could become disillusioned and angry when their idol moves from speaking for them to being a Disney shill.

He was just the front man to soften up the act. Chuck D and Prof Griff were saying all the political and influential lyrics.
