I believe I detect sarcasm, but in all seriousness, I hope everything goes well. She's hospitalized right now which meant they had to announce before they would have wished. To endure a miscarriage/difficult pregnancy under the level of scrutiny they live with would be terrible.

Kate, Duchess of a College Town (Cambridge). If Cambridge is anything like Ames this could be ANYBODY's baby...

I'm not doing your dirty work for you.
Besides, if I told you, you'd have to think of me while fighting the cyclops, and I just wouldn't feel right about that.

Yeah, hyperemesis gravidarum is also pretty miserable. I had a case of it with our first pregnancy - I threw up about 20 times a morning until we got me on a very strict drug regimen. I had to be on it with our daughter, as well. You oftentimes can't gain any weight until you stop vomiting - and since all nutrients you take (and keep) in go to the fetus first, it can really affect the mother nutritionally.
I'm not all that interested in the royal family at all, but I do feel for her for having such a rough condition, and probably having to announce earlier than is considered safe (although there's really no such thing as "safe").

I wanted to ask someone but you seem to have answered it - is it something that will commonly occur with subsequent pregnancies as well?

Gertrude would be okay yet they might prefer a Henry or a John instead.

I honestly can't tell you for 100% sure that it would have gotten AS bad with our second pregnancy. Due to my first round, and due to some other medical issues that we were fighting that would have been exacerbated through frequent vomiting, they kept me incredibly medicated from the second we got our positive test. I still vomited a small handful of times even with the around-the-clock drug regimen, but it never was like the HG.

Yikes, none of that sounds fun. Regular morning sickness sounds bad enough, I can't imagine how bad the HG would be.

I just don't understand why anyone gives any more of a **** about the British Royal Family than anyone else.

Well for me, I like princesses. And British shiz. I also don't get the American obsession with a lot of celebrities, like the Kardashians, or Twilight actors, but I like Will and Kate.

I am not being a dick- a quite serious question: What happens if this kid is born and it has some sort of mental/physical abnormalities, such as downs syndrome, etc? Pretty sure that they could not be the heir to the throne, could he/she? I dont know anything about the Brits' but this crossed my mind a few minutes ago.

Maybe the would use a regent? Though I thought that was more for cases where a child is ruling or a previously competent ruler is no longer so - like when George III went mad. His son became his regent. So the next in line would likely take over as regent until the sitting ruler dies.
