that's just the nature of the question - in reality, there'd probably be other factors affecting what you are able to do, but for this, you just have to answer based on knowing you can only save one.

Ironic that I just saw a news story this morning where a guy was thrown on to the subway tracks in NY. Someone managed to take pictures of the guy struggling to get back on the platform, but didn't bother to try and help the guy.
