Re: What do you hate about getting older?
Realizing all the stuff you used to like or was cool is no longer liked or cool. Seeing something you had as a kid at an antique store. Suddenly noticing how much your siblings look - not like your parents - but like your Grandparents. Wondering, "What's got into kids these days? Tattoos, piercings, pants falling down to show buttcrack." Saying "I can't stand that crap - how is that music?" and realizing that's verbatim what your grandparents said about the music you grew up with.
No matter what, I could NEVER cheer for Dirt and Urine. -

Re: What do you hate about getting older?
The number one thing I hate about getting old is the refractory period. When I was young I could have sex, and be ready to go again within seconds. Today, in my mid 40's, the first round lasts much longer, but getting up for the second round requires time and work. Round two lasts 15 minutes. Third round? Not happening.
The other thing is that the sins of my youth have caught up big time! The movie Jacka$$ could easily have been about me and my friends, minus the anal-play (wow, never expected to type "anal-play" when I woke up this morning). Now my knuckles, shoulders, back, knees, etc seem to hurt all the time.

Hey, when one door closes, another opens. At 35, that 25 year old is looking pretty good, but with the right one, her 45 year old mom ain't too shabby either.

I saw a very pretty girl in probably her mid to mid-late teens last week with those giant gauge earring things in her earlobes. I remember thinking, "WTF, she's going to have giant saggy earlobes for the rest of her life, why would she do that?" You don't think through things like that when you're 15.

Just wait until your grand daughter is a college sophomore. Then you will know what being old is all about. Baby, I am there. Wrinkles are comfortable. Aches and pains, not so much.

Re: What do you hate about getting older?
I've gone through noticed transitions as a teacher over the years. They have to do with how your students look at you.
1. In my early years it was "wow he's hot" or "I'd love to go out with that teacher." You're the young, cool teacher that everyone likes.
2. In my middle years it went through two transitions. An adjustment to #1 was that I was now the "mature" teacher that the girls still flirted with, but now it was because I was "safe"...too old to be taken seriously. The second transition was when I realized that I had become old enough to be my students dad and they looked at me in the same way. The father-figure.
3. Now that I've been teaching for a long time (this is my 29th year) I had the realization just last week that I was now old enough to be teaching my early students' children. Heck...some of those early students are grandparents now. At work I'm considered "senior" faculty. Where did the time go?
As for physical changes, I echo all the above. Nose hair. Ear hair. Wild eyebrows. I'm fortunate my bald spot is in the back so I don't see it. Of course I felt so good when Anna Prins came to our tailgate and my wife directed her my way by saying, "he's the guy with the bald spot." Wonderful. Thank you dear.

I honestly never understood the appeal of piercing even back when I WAS young - About the time when it was changing from, "Only the slutty wrong-side-of-the-tracks girls have their ears pierced." transitioned into most teenage girls getting ears pierced. Then guys...ugh. I just always thought of it as, "Hey lets poke a hole in our bodies and hang something from it!" Yeah, I'm old alright...

With you dead... but if you remember before that, my cartilage in me knees is pretty much non existent.
it also ended with me kicking your *** to level 100... in case you forgot that part.

My allergies are so bad that I can't wear earrings, so I've gotten them pierced and let them close up - but now I have little scars on my ears, which sucks and I regret ever doing it. It's one of the reasons I refuse to pierce my toddler's ears, despite everyone saying it's SO much easier to do it when they're young. What if she doesn't want them, or the accompanying scars someday?
