Probably the worst in softball was playing a night game and ran up on a pop fly to shallow left, stared right into the lights as I was running, noticed that I had run up too far, staggered backwards and fell on my butt, missing the ball by about 10 feet. Yeah this happened to me in a HS baseball game. It was my junior year and I was playing RF. Lost one in the lights, and they scored 2 and won the game. Ugh.

Re: Most Disappointing Athletic Fail
I sprained my ankle really bad on the opening tip off of a basketball game my senior year in high school. The kid against me didn't even jump (I'm 6'7" and he was like 5'10") and I landed right on his foot. Went down like a little baby. It was actually really funny to watch on film because the refs didn't stop the game and the ball went up and down the court twice while I just laid there and then crawled off the floor. Ended up missing 4 games because of it.

Re: Most Disappointing Athletic Fail
Not really sure if this is a fail or not. But my Freshman or Sophomore year in track I was running the 800 and I lost my Shoe at the beginning of the second lap. i still won the race, so whether it was a fail or not is still up in the air.
“They're very, very hard to guard,” Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey said. “They're really good. And with Niang in the middle kind of wheeling and all those guys spreading you out, they're kind of a nightmare matchup. And they're men. They're really men.” -

Sophmore year of High School going for my first dunk in a Varsity game, had a fast break all to myself and my knee just gave out... Went crashing into the pads behind the basket... Luckily I was able to flip the ball up and the guy behind me picked it up and scored for an assist.

Posted in the other thread, but I led the state of Iowa in INT's thrown my junior year of high-school. I refuse to tell you the number. Let's just say that switching from a power run team to a 5-wide scheme with the new coach was a bad idea.
Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

PS- If it really was you, sorry about your face Lol, not me. My team was up by about 20 and some dude tried to dribble it through my legs so I put him on his *** as he was going past to stop him.

Re: Most Disappointing Athletic Fail
Playing football my senior year in high school. Crosstown rivalry in the playoffs. We had lost the matchup in the regular season at home - now we're playing on their field.
We are up pretty big in the first half and have the ball. I play on the offensive line. Our running back breaks free down the outside and I am trailing the play. Not sure what I was thinking, but I decide to turn around and try to stop someone that might be trying to catch him.
Big mistake. I'm still stopping my momentum and beginning to turn my head around when their best defensive player - a lineman who now starts for a BCS conference champion team - absolutely demolished me, right in front of their student section. It was the biggest hit I have ever taken, and to make it worse, I heard the "OHHHH!!!!" come from the crowd as I smashed into the ground. I felt like I was hit by a truck.
Our running back got caught at around the 10 yard line, and I remember this being the only time that I ever ran back to the huddle laughing. I think I did that because I wasn't sure how else to react. Probably because I was a little woozy, too.
Luckily no one else saw it happen that was on the field, but after we got in the end zone a couple plays later, I heard it from everyone on the sideline.
We still won the game by 30+.

Oh, and the worst part was watching it in slow mo over and over again the next day with the team

That just reminded me of the time i tried to throw an alley oop to myself off the back board on a fast break in high school and i somehow ended up throwing it over the backboard completely. I sat for a while after that.
I also blocked a shot once and decided to be a tough guy about it and volleyball spike it and ended up drilling one of my best friends right in the nose with it.

Re: Most Disappointing Athletic Fail
Got ejected from a football game my junior year against a rival team for punching a guy in the face (facemask actually) and b/c of that ejection, missed the next game which was against a division team.
Not my best minute...

Re: Most Disappointing Athletic Fail
I blocked a layup from one of my own teammates. It was the guy I regularly guarded during practice and we were rarely on the court together, so instincts took over and I stuffed him off of an inbounds play. At least it got a good laugh from the bench.
