    North Face or Columbia

Looking for a good wind and rain proof jacket. Which one do you prefer?

    Re: North Face or Columbia

I have a North Face rain jacket that I really love, but if I had to replace it, I'd probably go with Marmot; it's basically the same stuff but 20% cheaper.

Marmot or mountain hardwear. Third choice patagonia. All these are better made although I can't speak for what is in style.

I've heard mixed reviews about their rain jackets. A friend wore one fishing during the rain and the water seeped right through the jacket.

I like Columbia. It's quite a bit cheaper, and I can't tell a difference in quality, but I'm no expert either.

How warm? Or just wind and rain proof?

Second this. If you have a Theisens near you they have deals on Columbia right now. Cheaper than North Face and every bit as good, IMO.

    Re: North Face or Columbia

My last coat was a Colombia and this one is a North Face. I feel my North Face is a warmer coat, but I am not quite comparing apples to apples.

If it matters, Colombia sells coats in "Tall" sizes, but my North Face is quite long even though it is not a "Tall" size

    Re: North Face or Columbia

I have a North Face APEX, which is waterproof and does an amazing job of keeping me warm/dry when it's raining or snowing out. North Faces are expensive but they're worth the money IMO.

Are you going to risk dying if you get wet? If not, I'd save the money and go with Columbia. GoLite online is another good one to look at. That's where I go for gear when I need it now.
