Re: This is going to hurt, isn't it?
I didn't know his license was revoked at the time. We looked it up when I got home. The information he gave me appears to be true.
And I know I should have called the cops now. Like I said, I misinterpreted what the agent said (who I called first because I wasn't sure what to do since it was essentially a minor accident) and thought because the police probably wouldn't come, that it didn't need to be called in. I was definitely not thinking clearly on that one. I'll see what I can do about that when I talk to the agent shortly.
I guess it's good that I was planning on driving this car into the ground, so hopefully the trade-in value won't ever be a big factor.

Always, always, always, shop your insurance around. Try a different agent, check on-line, ask friends and family, whatever, just get out there and shop it around. There's lots of decent, reputable companies around - especially in Wisconsin. If you aren't willing to shop for a lower premium, don't complain when the rates go up.
Just try a few - you might be surprised by what you get quoted. Originally Posted by State43 Hope it all works out for you. This kind of thing sucks hard. I guess I'll find out just how nice they are, but he was really nice last night.

Not sure if I should go with TMI or ask for more info here.

You will only get your deductible back once he has paid the insurance company back in full.

Asked if I were ok, how the car was, joked with me about "of course he doesn't have insurance". You know how you talk to some people who do a service for you (doctor, dentist, etc.) and they make it seem like you are bothering them or a chore? Very much the opposite with our agent.

yay! I'm hoping we can get the deductible back but the second he said "uninsured" I pretty much lost hope of that. I'm more concerned about paying for this for the next several years through higher premiums. I hope this is how ours works too!

Re: This is going to hurt, isn't it?
holy crap, so I can search criminal records in WI..............he was on his SIXTH operating with a revoked license in 2006. After that it just changed to "4th + offense". Clearly this is one idiot who never learns. And I really doubt I'll be seeing any money out of him seeing as he has multiple fines already this year. Good grief. If I had bought lottery tickets yesterday, I probably would have won. And the prize would be ME paying $100 million, lol.

Re: This is going to hurt, isn't it?
The issue here is that you didn't call the police and because you didn't, your insurance will more than likely go up. Without there being a police presence there to deem who was actually at fault, it's technically your word against everyone else's now. Always, always, always call the police. I understand being flustered, but that's the VERY first thing you should do. I was T-boned at an intersection once by an uninsured driver and last I knew my insurance company was STILL trying to get money from them--but it didn't come back on me because I called the cops.

Always call the police for a real accident (property damage or injury). Always, always, always. There's a large percentage of the human race that will do everything they can to f--- you over to save their own pathetic *** whenever they have a chance to do so. Police will generally advocate for the responsible adult and not the overgrown child who doesn't even have their **** together enough to have insurance.

There's always small claims court for the dirtbag that hit you. Probably a 'blood out of a turnip' type of thing, but you never know

If you are not at fault call the police. When you try to be nice about it you get screwed. I have firsthand knowledge of that.
They say country music speaks to the heart. Unfortunately, it has to go through your ears to get there. -
Re: This is going to hurt, isn't it?
You might check your policy to see if you have UMPD (uninsured motorists physical damage) coverage. It's not required in Wisconsin so you probably don't, but if you bought it you wouldn't have a deductible. Also, file a police report if you haven't already. Better late than never.

Re: This is going to hurt, isn't it?
Police said to do a self-report online, so I'll have to wait now to do that. It requires a damage estimate and we have no idea what that will be. It also requires some other information about the other person that I don't have so I hope they don't send it back at me as incomplete.
Claims adjuster was very nice, so that's good. Said they'd do whatever it takes as far as putting the other driver on an installment plan or something to get the deductible paid too.
