This is going to hurt, isn't it?
Any insurance experts out there?
So, I was having a ****** day, and due to a gift for my husband not being in on time, I cancelled shopping on one side of town to just go home and take a nap.
And then I got rear-ended. And of course the driver is uninsured. And of course I later find out he's driving on a revoked license. He hit me hard enough to knock me into the car ahead of me, so I have two lovely bumpers to replace on the car I've had for five months. I CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS! (sidenote, why did the POS 20 year old car I had for 4 years never get a damn scratch?)
I didn't call the police because I got flustered and think I misinterpreted my insurance agent (he said the sheriff likely wouldn't come due to drive-able cars and no injuries - I think he still meant I should call and report it though. I was flustered in the moment and thought it only really counted if the cops came, yeah I messed it all up, I know.) I also thought it'd be much less likely that I'd get my $500 deductible out of this guy if he's paying other fines after I call the cops on him. In any case, I'll talk to the insurance again tomorrow and at least call and report it, if I can, if the agent says I should.
Anyway, what I'm really dreading to know is will this make my premiums go up now, even though it wasn't my fault? I've gone through our policy (something online said some mention it) and don't see anything about it, but I figure they must go up, because it's been a ****** day.
The best part was about 10 minutes after I got home and then the gift place called to let me know my husband's gift came in and I could have been over there and not have gotten rear-ended.
Clearly not my day.
My husband gets points though, after looking up the guy's driver's license and seeing it was revoked, he said he bet it was for drunk driving. So I find the dude's facebook. What do you know, he had a post in January about his drinking getting him in trouble and how he needed to get help. I hit the jackpot of rear-enders, clearly.
*very grateful that no one is hurt and it's just car parts - they can be fixed.

Typical female, following so close that they rear end the person in front of them.

Sorry, after I read, "This is going to hurt, isn't it?"
And then, "And then I got rear-ended";
I sorta lost focus

You really should have called the police. Just makes things easier from a insurance prospective. I don't think most insurance goes up for a non-fault accident. Just try to do your best to work with insurance and it probably won't cost you too bad, just your deductible to fix it.

Sorry to tell you but your insurance will most likely go up. Although, some insurance companies do have clauses (incentives) that they won't raise your premium if you're in an accident that wasn't your fault, so it depends what company you go through.
I would always err on the side of calling the police in the future, especially in a situation with more than two cars and an uninsured driver.
Glad to hear that nobody was hurt though!

I love the fact that we have sexism and pervertism as two of the first three responses.
This is why CF > HN.

I was stopped. I had had to stop quickly because all of sudden we were stopping, but I had enough time to stop, look in my mirror and think "oh ****, he's not going to stop in time is h-SLAM." I don't think he was looking, cause he had a good couple seconds.

actually, it ended up just being two cars. The lady I hit was like "I'm good, I'm leaving" before I could get my paper out to trade info. Husband figures she had drugs on her, lolol. I figured we were good because it looked like the front of my car was good. Not till I got home and we looked at it did we realize the license plate holder was broken and had punctured holes all over the bumper. Too bad for her if she discovers damage, I guess.
Re: This is going to hurt, isn't it?
Your insurance rates should not go up, since this is a not at fault accident. You will have to pay your collision deductible, but your company will be able to go after the other driver and get their money back along with your deductible. It will take a while to get the money back, because they will probably have to get a judgement against him.

First sorry you had a ****** day.
second, in IL you can get a police report up to 7 days after the accident. Don't know how it works in WI, but if you aren't going to get any money from the guy (likely do to his history). At least the police will know he was out driving on a revoked license. Also a police report will help greatly in the insurance claim.
My wife did this less than 12 months ago, luckily the girl that hit her had full coverage. But they did the police report the next day, I believe she called the state police, but that might depend on what kind of road the accident was on.
anyway hope this helps, good luck. Hope your husband likes his present.

Most states will allow you to still file a report for a certain period of time. If I were you I would file the report if possible. The police will be able to fine him for driving on a revoked license which, might deter him from being on the road. Between a DUI and this accident, it will make the roads safer and prevent someone else from being in an accident with an uninsured driver.
